On non-science news, yesterday I attended the first and last concert of Spanish beloved singer, songwriter and poet, Joaquin Sabina, in Chicago. And it filled my soul with warmth and hope. Much needed in these troubling times.
With the challenges ahead, I thought I would start to periodically share inspiring quotes. Here is the first of hopefully many “microgems”. Microgem #1

5 and last) I am so proud of all the folks around me who share these principles and continue to work towards a future that benefits ALL and not a few. No compromises. Onward and upward. And to end a’la Ted Lasso: BELIEVE!
4) I am putting the election behind to focus on the fight ahead. My values and principles will not be compromised. I will continue to be invested on the people and issues that are worth fighting for. Equal opportunities, respect, empathy, education, accountability. And paying it forward.
3) These were “unflippable”, “educated” votes. They knew what they were doing. There was nothing we could have done to change their vote, except not having an incredibly talented and charismatic black woman as our candidate. I am proud we did regardless of the outcome.
After dealing with post-election grief and processing what happened, I am now ready to share some thoughts. This post from X is spot on. A 🧵 1) Democrats had an extraordinary candidate who ran a flawless campaign. But it was not enough against widespread racism and misogyny.
Being a mentor is such a privilege. These are the moments that make science most worthwhile.
