He doesn’t have the Stanley Cup with him, but Seth Jarvis is still making the hometown rounds. He’s here at tonight’s Winnipeg Goldeyes game and just got a hearty round of applause from fans after winning the between-innings contest.
History has just been made here at Blue Cross Park. The Winnipeg Goldeyes just set a new franchise record (spanning 32 years) with their 12th straight victory — a dramatic 7-5 comeback win over Chicago. I’ve got a story coming for @winnipegfreepress.com
Can the Winnipeg Goldeyes make some history tonight? They’re aiming for a 12th straight win which would set a new franchise record. I’ve got coverage from Blue Cross Park for @winnipegfreepress.com
Greetings from Assiniboia Downs where the biggest race night of the year is underway in front of a massive crowd. The main event is the 78th running of the Manitoba Derby. I’ll have on scene coverage for @winnipegfreepress.com
Beautiful night here at Blue Cross Park as the “Manitoba Mosquitos” aka the Winnipeg Goldeyes (they’ve re-branded for one night only) kick off a 7-game homestand. They’ve been buzzing lately. 5 straight wins. Above .500 for first time this year. I’ve got coverage for @winnipegfreepress.com
Angela Martens of Elmhurst is the Manitoba senior women’s champion as she taps in for par on the first playoff hole. A terrific back and forth battle. I’ll have full coverage for @winnipegfreepress.com
So nice he did it twice. The great Todd Fanning, one of Manitoba’s most decorated golfers, has added a second straight Senior’s Championship to his impressive resume. He birdied 18 here at Breezy Bend to finish the 54-hole tournament at -5, winning by 4 shots.
I spent last week in Cross Lake, a remote northern Manitoba First Nation. Brady Keeper was the first — and, so far, only — local to make the NHL. Now he’s back home, helping inspire the next generation. My feature on hockey, hope and humanity runs in Saturday’s @winnipegfreepress.com
The $30 million man, Cole Perfetti, is speaking about his 5-year contract extension with the #NHLJets. Says he's never felt better physically after intense summer of training so far and thrilled to be locked up with an organization/city he loves. Story coming for @winnipegfreepress.com
Out of office and on assignment for the next few days. Working on a very special sports-themed feature for @winnipegfreepress.com which I’m excited to share with you. No spoilers yet, but it’s set to run July 25.
A little toasty here today at Blue Cross Park. There’s actually a good crowd on hand watching the Winnipeg Goldeyes — but the majority of folks are shady characters. Here in the press box, there’s no question who the “fan” of the game is.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes are heating up. A 9-3 victory tonight in front of nearly 4,000 fans at Blue Cross Park gives the Fish 41 runs (and 3 wins) in the last 4 outings. I’ve got a story coming for @winnipegfreepress.com The homestand continues Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.
I just asked #NHLJets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff what the positional plan is for Viggo Bjorck. “He’s a centre.” There you go, folks.
No question who the star of the show is here — on and off the ice. Viggo Bjorck dazzled during the scrimmage and is now putting in some extra work in the long autograph line.
Adam Vigfusson, the Niverville Nighthawks captain and Centennial Cup MVP who is headed to St. Cloud this fall, scores the decisive shutout winner as Team Blue rallies late to beat Team White 9-8 to end #NHLJets development camp.
#NHLJets development camp scrimmage is underway. 5 on 5 to start. Then 3 on 3.
New #NHLJets defenceman Mario Ferraro, who is from Ontario, says "I can't wait to experience a Canadian fan-base." He's also excited to reunite with former gold medal winning World Championship teammates Gabe Vilardi and Cole Perfetti.
Stuart Skinner -- who has the same agent as Connor Hellebuyck-- says #NHLJets seemed like perfect fit for him at this stage of his career. "Obviously there's rumours out there. As of right now me and Helly are teammates, which is exciting, He's the best goalie in the world."
Viggo Bjorck: Puck thief. Lukas Gustafsson had it on his stick — until he didn’t. Bjorck is a bulldog out here.
Viggo Bjorck meets the media here in Winnipeg for the first time. This kid just oozes character and charm. Very very engaging. And funny.
Speaking via Zoom with Samuel Hrenak, who is in Buffalo, and the #NHLJets newest prospect can't stop smiling. He was hoping to be drafted by Winnipeg -- just a 3.5 hour drive from Fargo, where he spent last season.
A ton of joy here in Cypress River as Carson Carels is drafted 6th overall by the Calgary Flames.
And here’s the local man of the hour, Carson Carels, who told me he’d genuinely touched to have so many family and friends here to share in this special occasion.
The “village” that helped get Carson Carels to this stage of his hockey career has started to gather as we get closer to the start of the NHL draft.
Greetings from Cypress River, Manitoba, where I have a unique perspective for the opening round of the NHL draft. I’m here with top prospect Carson Carels and about 200 family and friends on their farm for an outdoor viewing/selection party. Story to come for @winnipegfreepress.com
This wonderful five-month-old came to us through the great folks at Winnipeg Boxer Rescue and has quickly proven that three’s company. She’s fit in perfectly alongside five-year-old Piper (her BFF) and 12-year-old Bodie, and it’s already hard to imagine our lives without her.
“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” — Roger Caras Allow me to introduce the newest member of the McIntyre family. Meet Ruby — a curious and loving little girl with big ears and an even bigger heart.
From the other site re #NHLJets Kevin Cheveldayoff, since I’ve seen a lot of white noise out there.
The Manitoba Cup connections. Seth Jarvis. Jordan Martinook. Nikolaj Ehlers.
