Public transit is public good and a human right. I am proud to champion public transit, pedestrian infrastructure, and statewide protected bikeways that prioritize and preserve our planet and environment.

If you don’t talk about the issues that young people care about, you can’t expect them to show up for you. Drop the buzzwords, drop the poll-tested language, and focus on what is impacting people right now.

Young voters always spot BS. That includes voting out politicians who show up at election time but are not in the streets with the people or using their positions to upend systems that make billionaires wealthier and strip away our rights.

Starting January 1st, Illinois renters are going to have the transparency and fairness they deserve. New legislation I introduced will be law, banning many common junk rental fees and requiring the rest of any add-ons be disclosed on the first page of your lease.

Juneteenth celebrates the agency of Black Americans throughout American history. One way we can all honor the memories of those who came before us is to continue their fight towards equity and a future with more rights for all, not fewer.

Later in my career I served as Deputy Director of My Brother’s Keeper at the Obama Foundation before becoming a state senator myself. Walking around the center brought me right back to those experiences. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

I interned with then-US Senator Barack Obama on Capitol Hill in his first year. One of my vivid memories from that summer was riding in the Capitol trolley with Sen. Obama while he went for a floor vote.

Michael and I enjoyed recently visiting the Obama Presidential Center! During the tour I felt immense pride to be from Chicago and to have lived through the historic Obama presidency.

Happy Pride, everyone! I kicked off the month with Niles Pride and had the honor of leading their community parade. It was a joyous, powerful morning with LGBTQ+ leaders, neighbors, historians, educators, advocates, families, and allies from across the north side.

I am proud to continue doing the real work as your Illinois State Senator, and to continue building real connections with our neighbors so we can upend business-as-usual politics, move past the broken status quo, and usher in a more livable chapter. I am HERE for that vision and I know you are too!
