Just watched the 1980 sci-fi movie The Killings at Outpost Zeta. Best known for this scene at the end being used by Boards of Canada for cover of Twoism. The synth-y soundtrack would definitely be an inspiration for them as well.
So glad I grabbed this monograph when I did. The Designers Republic was a big influence to myself and a lot of other designers during my college years. A big, beautiful book as well!
