Greece was the experience of a lifetime. Very grateful to have been able to visit. I’d been dreaming of seeing some of these sites for 30 years, since first learning about them in the 6th grade! 🇬🇷🏛️🏺
What a great privilege to attend and present at @ische-news.bsky.social and to do so with these great humans and scholars. @melli75.bsky.social #HistEd
Went on a wonderful tour of the National Library of Greece with this group of scholars as part of @ische-news.bsky.social. Incredible experience! #HistEd
I had a great time in Nixon last night proposing a new study I’m working on w/ my friend & colleague Joel Miller and Gaylene Williams, one of UNR’s fantastic Native Doc students, before the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Council. Our proposal was approved! Looking forward to the work.
BREAKING: the AP updates its Stylebook to acknowledge Indigenous sovereignty as a dimension of Native identity 42 years after Deloria & Lytle publish The Nations Within. 🙃
With the Illinois Men’s 🏀 team headed to the Final Four, it’s a great time for university administrators and the Board of Regents to recognize the Kingfisher as the official mascot!
I appreciate the work @littlejusticeleaders is doing on Instagram to provide white settler parents with resources for talking to children about social injustice. Here is an example for engaging in discussion about Thanksgiving (and its myths).
This! I have been using the em dash far longer than ChatGPT and I refuse to concede this ground because of an automated language model.
Listening to some local jazz while drinking a locally brewed beverage while sitting on a rock just off the Lake Tahoe shore while the kids play in the water and collect rocks. This is the life.
I can’t emphasize enough how this isn’t even about Trump, et al. trying to destroy/limit federal institutions &/or oversight. It’s about preventing future alterations (in whatever form!) to existing class/race-based status quo.
Gone are the days of maintaining the illusion that approximating equal opportunity is a goal—let alone THE goal—of education. SCOTUS working diligently to decimate civil rights in K12, make higher edu inaccessible, & force (re: track) youth to accept low-wage labor to sustain the ruling class.
First MLB game in two years hit the spot, even if the Sox did lose in the end lol. Fun to see two of my favorite teams play each other, too. We have to try and find some joy in the chaos that is our current sociopolitical hellscape. Baseball is a wonderful escape.
The last time a Senator from Utah made moves like the ones Mike Lee is, 100 tribes were terminated and 1.3 million acres of land were stolen. We shouldn’t see this as anything less than Termination 2.0.
Presented this morning with this great crew! What a pleasure to learn from and with such incredible scholars. I can only tag @khalil.bsky.social since he’s the only other one of us all with a Bsky account! #AERA25
I’m super excited to share that I have accepted an offer (and officially signed a contract) with the University of Nevada, Reno, to begin working as an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership in the Department of Educational Studies beginning fall 2025!
Mr. President, you are getting dragged on Instagram. Rightly so. As preeminent Diné historian Jennifer Denetdale has written: “American imperial expansion into Navajo lands and the exploitation of Navajo resources has not benefited Navajo.”
Today I became Dr. Tanner after I passed my dissertation defense! I’m very grateful for everyone who helped me get to this moment; it’s been a community effort.
This portal weaponizes both public dollars and a federal office to attack educators and children. We must see this for what it is—state sanctioned violence to repress the plurality of human existence, and to prevent human flourishing.
Excited to be presenting at and participating in this conference today. It’s always a wonderful experience!
For the nerds: exciting changes/additions to the 18th ed. include explicit inclusion of and guidance for the use of Indigenous languages. It also includes specific acknowledgement of and (IMO) more respectful treatment of Indigenous sources of knowledge—e.g., oral history / stories. #histed #writing
Ooof. @keithorejel.bsky.social with the sick (and accurate) burn 😬
