Yesterday I woke up and enjoyed a fire by my bedside. I finished my book, I had coffee, talked with friends, and enjoyed the brisk fall day. Today I woke up in my own bed as my alarm went off. I'm back to work and already dreaming of when I can get away for another weekend of nature and quiet.

I present Berber English's guide to ways of describing burnout. Me today: "Where to begin, for my faculties have been exhausted by perpetual toil, and incessant application has so stripped me of vitality that I am scarcely able to summon the strength requisite for the smallest effort."

Basic English: I'm burnt out. Neutral English: I'm completely drained. Formal English: I feel entirely depleted. Academic English: I have reached the point of complete exhaustion. Gentlemanly English: I have been worked to the very marrow. Aristocratic English: I find myself lamentably incapacitated by fatigue. Visiting the tide pools and Yaquina Head Lighthouse today. The cobbles (beach rocks) are so smooth here that they bounce. Fun to see all the starfish, anemones, baby crabs, tiny fish, snails, mussels, barnacles, and other sea creatures.
