I’ve got an appointment in half an hour, you guys - what do I do?? 😸 😻
For #smallpoemsunday, the first poem I ever published (Haiku Journal, 2021). Good for a cloudy day like this one 😊 Thanks, as ever, to @tomsnarsky.bsky.social 🙏 🌧️
Poetry on the radio - what a concept! 😊 On today’s broadcast of “There Is a Life After Life,” you can hear me read my poem “Apology to a Bird,” first published in Nixe’s Mate. Thanks to curator/emcee Damon Thomas. Link to listen below 👇 🙏
You guys, my son made a forktopus at camp, and I’m kind of in love with it 🐙 😆 💕
If you sit next to me on a plane looking like this, I WILL talk to you 😂
Found this in my teen daughter’s bedroom— should I be worried? 😅
Elated to have three (3!!) pieces accepted by the lovely @sarpsozdinler.bsky.social for two upcoming releases in the @bulbregion.bsky.social ! Çok teşekkür ederim, Sarpcim! 🤗 🤗
Poeming for the Haikuists in my $10 thrifted Karl Lagerfeld last night. This job really does take me to some of the nicest clubs—and, more importantly—the best bathrooms, in the city 😆 💕
For @tomsnarsky.bsky.social’s #smallpoemsunday, a 1000+ year old poem by Ono no Yoshiki, from the kokinshuu, that still slaps. (Arthur Waley translation) It was, in fact, this poem—discovered in middle school—that set me on the path to studying Japanese as well as (eventually) writing
Been a while since I nabbed a fiver 😊 I wasn’t feeling very well on last evening’s walk, but I kept going, and finding this on the way back was my reward 5️⃣ 🍀 💕
My parents never photographed me with a frog when I was little, but I can assure you that I’ve been making amphibians late for things since the ‘80s 😂 🐸 (P.S. - No animals were harmed in the making of this image - only momentarily startled, and perhaps lastingly annoyed 😉)
Proud to have three of my favorite poems both seen and heard in the newest wave of Iamb UK. Link to read and listen below ⬇️ 🙏
47 years old today. Mother of one adult and two soon-to-be adults. I’ve written and published some things I’m proud of. I’ve held onto my job in a time of extreme duress. I’ve found a partner who loves me the way I always deserved. So many reasons for gratitude.
Delighted to be part of an international Best Small Fictions reading next weekend. It will be at 5:30 pm EST on Saturday, June 13th, if you’re in my part of the world. Look below for the link to YouTube channel where event will be live-streamed 👇
For Small Poem Sunday, something published in @miniskirtmag.bsky.social in December 2024, with thanks, as always, to @tomsnarsky.bsky.social 🩵
Former Twitter users, your abandoned accounts are being hacked in large numbers. If you no longer use Twitter, please close your account so it can’t be exploited by fraudsters 😔 🙏 Either that, or maybe just come back sometimes? Those of us still hanging in there really miss you #writingcommunity
For @tomsnarsky.bsky.social’s Small Poem Sunday, a monostich of mine that never landed anywhere (though it did get a nice-ish rejjie from Only Poems 😊)
Wow, thanks @grantamag.bsky.social - this actually was worth the 2+ year wait … 😉
Guys, is this a form rejection or a (*slightly) tiered one 🤔 The encouraging last line has me puzzled, since they rejected my work after just 9 days 😬. I’ve never submitted to this place before, and don’t know their MO…
Preparing for my keynote speech at the recent Zone 3 Writers’ Festival got me nostalgic for the decade I spent immersed in Japanese language & literature. Shown here are the cover and pages of my beloved, much-marked copy of Murakami’s novel “Almost Transparent Blue.” - 1/3
Regrettably, I have been unable to access my clean, folded towels for more than a week now. 😂 🐈⬛ 💕 Happy Caturday 😻
New readers on an old writer 😆 👓Recent medical tests revealed, to my surprise, that I am NOT (hormonally) in perimenopause😳 I have a fibroid. We shall see what the OB thinks we ought to do about it. And boy, if this ain’t peri, cannot WAIT to see what that’s gonna feel like 😂
The other marriage of mine that didn’t work out 😬 JK - you know what day it is 😜
Honored to have a little poem out today in Burial Mag. In the words of the EIC, “…this demolishing [ekphrastic] poem … stands entirely on its own: it’s called ‘phantom thread,’ and i like that it works as interpolation of the film AND as its own devastating object. don’t you dare miss it.”
Still can’t believe I’m in this, along with some of my favorite flash fiction friends, including @lumchanmfa.bsky.social & @claudiamonpere.bsky.social 💕 Catching a plane today, & so excited to have this read on my travels 🤗 TYSM to @altcurrent.bsky.social & @southeastreview.bsky.social🙏
Throwback to that time I went up against a giant metal rooster for best cockscomb and won 😆
Another bite-sized banger from Mag Gabbert for #smallpoemsunday, with thanks to @tomsnarsky.bsky.social 🙏 🚀 ✨
So honored to be the recipient of this year’s creative nonfiction prize from Zone 3 Press! 😃 I’ll be a (virtual) reader/keynote speaker at the 2nd annual Zone 3 Writers Festival, happening in Clarksville, TN from April 16th-18th. More details to come!
