This is great news

Hey y'all. Just updating. I will not be at Megaplex this year unless some last second mind changing happens. I very much want to go and I know if needed I could probably figure something out. I just dont have the energy right now for planning or doing a convention.

Another one those days where I feel beaten down and no signs on the horizon that things will get any better.

My strawberries are surprisingly still blooming this late into the season, but these are probably my last two strawberries and they dont look good. It's just too hot now.

What's not doing well is the in ground brassicas, radishes, beets and garlic. I understand why the in ground stuff isnt doing well, its poor soil (and weed growth, but the garlic in the grow bags is surprising me. Its using the cheap potting mix so thats likely the problem.

I'm also doing great with my remaining leafy stuff like lettuce, kale, basil and green onions.

It's not all successes in the garden, but I am starting to have some things mature. What onions I have left in grow bags are starting to bulbs, and my zucchini, peppers, and tomatoes are all fruiting now.

Ok that's it. Aside from sporadic squash/cucumber/melon and herb planting this summer I am done. Gotta find a home for the eggplants sometime this week. I put mom's neglected Everglades tomatoes in grow bags as well.

This is why I decided I had to forego resting today. This eggplant is at its goldilocks. The roots are nice and dense enough to where it's holding soil together without being densely root-bound. This is when you want to transplant.

Man, I haven't seen any plants in a state like this since I started. Some plants have dried out so thoroughly within the last two days that the soil where the roots are will not accept water. I have them in a tray with a gallon of water. I need to be careful not to have it sit overnight though.

Here's my one small nice thing to say this week. My first tomatoes beginning to fruit.

Spent my whole day transplanting my peppers. My eggplants will be done next weekend, if theyre anything like my peppers, waiting a week will be fine. Even still trying the real pitiful ones from September. Put a lot of fertilizer in there. My eggplants were starting to get aphids.

I'm cooking up one of my shallots, some kale, and some chard as well. This will be a quality meal.

First time cooking a prime steak. Normally I dont but because steak prices are fucking outrageous right now, $19/lb for choice and $21/lb for prime made more sense today.

Finally got my first basil harvest as well. I grew the genovese and cinnamon basil from seed! I harvested as much as possible to promote branching. This bunch of basil in the store would be like $4.

My cucumbers are doing OK. Zucchini is really taking off.

My peppers and eggplants are growing nicely. So is the kale.

Garden update time. Most of what I am growing has really grown in the two weeks I was gone. My tomatoes are 3-4 feet tall now!

Finally got to try some of my Rocket Fizz. Blackberry pie is delicious.

Came home to some peas and strawberries. These strawberries have been the best tasting ones so far.

Finally in Florida. Stopped at Whataburger as promised (and been wanting all week)

Yeah Ill go ahead and say it. Cook Out exceeds my Five Guys gold standard for fast food. Its like 90% of the way there quality wise for 1/3 the price. Its wild how good a value this place is. To think, I have now have the privilege to try Whataburger back to back to see who is better.

Since no Whataburger until Florida, having Cook Out one last time!

Sad times. Guided to a Whataburger that isnt open yet. Jacksonville, FL it is.

I also just tried Queeny's bar. I dont remember the last time where I ate at two places within an hour or so, but this was also really good. Bewhiskered's food scene here is insane y'all, it's been just a straight streak of great places to eat and there's places I missed out!

Tried Emmy Square Pizza in Durham. Pretty good! Never had Detroit style pizza. They had a nice Korean crushed pepper too
