Dave Cole@mrcheapseats· 1d Meet Sgt 1649 Harry Crook MM. Survived the war. Wounded at St Eloi and finally at Passchendaele; mentioned in the war diary and the official history. He's buried in BC after retirement to Saskatchewan and eventually Massett, Haida Gwaii. There are a number of blogs about him in my profile link.

Dave Cole@mrcheapseats· 24d 19th July 1916 saw William Burlingham go into action at Delville Wood with the 8th Norfolks. Although good progress was made, William lost a leg due to gunshot wounds. In later life, he could be seen riding a bicycle adapted for his wooden leg

Dave Cole@mrcheapseats· Jun 6 #OTD 1916 uncle Syd was with the 5th Battalion CEF in the trenches at Hill 60 near Ypres. A German artillery barrage opened up at 1230 & lasted most of the afternoon, followed by a second barrage from 5.30pm until 6.15pm. Syd received the mortal wounds from which he would die the next day #Canada

Dave Cole@mrcheapseats· May 26 Family treasure. Artefacts filed away for over 90 years, until they resurfaced recently in a house clearance and a dealer found me via my blogs. They've probably not seen the light of day since 1933 when my great grandfather died

Dave Cole@mrcheapseats· May 12 Probably VE day era 1945, Middleton's Lane, Hellesdon outside The Bull. Long after the invasion threat subsided, but there you go 👍

Dave Cole@mrcheapseats· Apr 8 👍 I assume they were the bottle type Wilson bomb. Quietly forgotten for 40 years until they went pop in the 1970s! There was a small corrugated tin nissen type shelter in the plantation. Gone now.

Dave Cole@mrcheapseats· Apr 8 I've got one car that does 20mpg and another that runs on sunshine. They're still friends though
