We’ve had such a wonderful afternoon, exploring the limestone grasslands between Kelloe and Coxhoe. Lovely views. Sunny and peaceful. Grasshoppers rattling in the grasses, and butterflies & day-flying moths fluttering everywhere. 😊

Delighted to discover on today’s dog walk that a local farm has sown their fields with nitrogen-fixing flowers this summer. 😍 Counted well over 50 butterflies before I lost count! Seed mix seems to be phacelia, common poppy, various vetches and various clovers. Gorgeous. 😊 #GreenManure

Keeping a close eye on our butterfly eggs. No sign of hatching yet. It can take up to a week, apparently! I just hope I’ve grown enough cabbages to keep them happy - three large plants ought to be enough, shouldn’t it? 😀

Happy #RoseWednesday everyone. Not many of my roses are in flower, but Perfect Gentleman (bred Rawlins) is at the height of his second flush. The flowers start off a yellowy-orange colour before changing to a pinkish-yellow and then to red-cream as they age. A real chameleon, this rose! 😀

Mr M is deeply in my bad books today for spilling half a cup of tea on a nearly-new beige carpet and leaving it to *dry* before telling me about it! It looks awful! 😬 On the positive side, another glorious day in Durham weather-wise. Not too hot. 😊

I’m several hours early for #WildflowerHour, but was wondering if anyone would kindly identify this for me please? Found beside a lane on magnesian limestone in County Durham yesterday. The plants were quite shrubby in habit and about waist high. Thank you. xx

Perfect Gentleman rose (Rawlins) has given me a surprise today. I had no idea he had such dramatic colour-changing properties in hot weather. It’s really rather fun. 😊

Hope everyone’s had a good Saturday! A very happy Fourth of July to those celebrating today! Tomorrow, I shall be marking 2 years since cancer surgery. Will never cease to be grateful for the care and expertise of the oncologists and healthcare team who saved my life. xx

Seaton Carew beach is huge and sandy and perfect for dogs and kids. So why spoil it with litter and especially broken glass bottles? Unbelievable amount of detritus in / near the dunes.

I don’t have @chrisworthing.bsky.social or @beauchamp45.bsky.social’s knack with choosing / arranging flowers for the house, but here’s my first attempt at a home-grown posy for our visitors. Nobody noticed it, but never mind. 😊

Thunderstorms rumbling almost continually in Durham at the moment! One very scared little dog here. It was 31C at lunchtime, according to my car thermometer. Hoping the thunderstorms might send some cooler air through. In the meantime, this was Lady of Shalott rose this morning, loving the heat! xx
