I *think* the SDCC where I sat next to one of the PotC/Aladdin writers at the big cartoonists’ dinner at Bucca de Beppo was the same SDCC where it was so overcrowded that the AC broke down, so @toughestfrail.com and I spent that Saturday hanging out on the HMS Rose from Master/Commander, instead.
Hathaway’s eyes when he first bends the bow is the best special effect you’ll see in a movie this year.
And then the African people get to sing about pep-o-mint Lifesavers for some reason
Speaking of Casino Royale, my Bond series rewatch continues apace - I just finally hit the Roger Moore era (I had no idea his first flick was a riff on blackspoilation flicks) #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched boxd.it/MDyt
In theaters it was Aliens, but at home, I never had any restrictions (I’ll never forget my dad laughing at the exec being blown away by ED-209 in Robocop when I was 13, especially at the extra who asks that paramedics be called after the exec has been turned into hamburger)
The only thing more ghastly than long-dead celebrities in Looney Tunes cartoons is long-dead celebrities in cartoons created by far less talented artists.
Between the bazillion pants here and the commercials they did for foodstuffs that really benefitted from CGI over hand-drawn/stop-motion animation, Pixar was *so* smart about which commercials they chose to do.
I love Adam Driver, but Disney hiring him to play the Tortured Big Bad in the next phase of the MCU is just gonna make it look even *more* like they can’t come up with any new ideas. They also gonna get that redheaded guy to play Mystique?
I hope to hell this plays over the end credits with MC Hammer’s Addams Groove beat
Crazy that just 40 years before this, animators (including some of the people who made this short) had a hard time understanding that you could animate different parts of a figure to move at different speeds so everything didn’t look like Cuphead.
Kills me that the "RDJ is Doom" announcement was met with the exact same amount of "uuuuh, okay?" trepidation as the original "RDJ is Tony Stark" announcement was met with near-universal enthusiasm.
Lucas going out of his way to make sure there were aliens who needed subtitles to be understood because it added otherworldly texture like you'd only get from subtitled foreign films, only for Jabba's son to be all "Hey, what up?" is such a smoothbrained idea that it loops around to being great.
Drives me fucking crazy that idiots like this who literally have no idea what they're talking about (especially how Shakespeare's work has been endlessly adapted over the centuries, on top of this dumbass having no idea that men played the women parts in Shakes' time) have the loudest voices.
The Beehive was a *perfect* time capsule of 90s hipster slackerdom - one location was a cozy little cafe (with a dedicated pinball room!), the other location was a cafe/movie theater showing John Waters, kaiju films and the MST3K movie to us disaffected Gen-X schmucks.
Testing to see if stuntmen can comfortably straddle a speeder bike while clad in brittle plastic Stormtrooper armor, they quickly realize they need a new Imperial trooper variant with soft goods thighs/crotches.
