Here’s a picture of the 4547. Note that Union Pacific has extensive locomotive maintenance facilities in Portland, Oakland and Los Angeles. For everyone’s sake I hope UP assigns this unit elsewhere. Wyoming, perhaps
Just from the headlines on the Chronicle app’s local news page, this must be the worst 4th of July maybe ever Just abominable vibes
Here at the Sharks Prospect Scrimmage and I can positively confirm that Karamanov is exceptionally large in all directions
News Flash: I found the renegade compost bin! It was hiding in plain sight in an out of the way corner of the stadium periphery
Made it up to the rim of the Stadium™️ in time for the kickoff. The logo tarp is particularly ineffective with a low sun and a stiff breeze. I hope the Levi’s marketing folks are loving the value they’ve gotten from their non-sponsorship
In actuarial terms, a World Cup in the USA is probably a twice in a lifetime event for me, but in 1994 I was even poorer and more removed from any of the venues, so this is probably my one shot. As you can see from the train, it really is San Francisco Bay Area on-the-way-to-the-Stadium
This happened the other day and I forgot to point it out here: the first appearance of a @mingemi.bsky.social PWHL San Jose article in my local rag, at the top of the sports page (literally, sports got exactly one page that day) Horrible group owner, horrible paper, great story
“Ticker tape” you ask? The Smithsonian has the answer, including a shoutout to the Oakland Museum of California, who have the one in the picture www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/t...
We’re just soiling ourselves now, Silicon Valley (solid reporting by KQED on the scene in Santa Clara today) www.kqed.org/news/12087516
I don’t know how things are going in your neighborhood, but here it’s a sleeeepy Caturday afternoon
In case the Chron sorts this out, here’s what it looked like when I quoted the post
I don’t think the disdain parts of NorCal feel for LA is quite as intense as it used to be, but it exists Here’s the latest annoying text from a Congressional candidate seeking office in a gerrymandered district stretching from the sylvan glades of Sonoma County to the Nevada line Look closely
Here’s the part I could relate to the most, as someone who actually did a show on a cable FM station like this in that long-ago era (the 1980’s). The flyer sums up the ethos *perfectly*
and my initial thought was “cool, they’re setting the ambience with the sound of an amp that’s plugged in but not doing anything yet” I underestimated them. Wildly. Did I jump on the stage and grab an axe. No 🙁. But if you can go, bring two friends, and make the museum staff proud/cringe/whatever
I don’t think you can have more 2’s on the scoreboard at one time than this Officially, this never happened. They took one shot away from the Sharks at intermission
Absent one of the wildest final weeks in NHL history, tonight is our final look at the 2025-26 San Jose Sharks. They take on the Vancouver Canucks, and I imagine Van is looking forward to the end of a not-fun year. Fan Appreciation Night, and I imagine the fans would appreciate a win
Also if this indeed turns out to be last call for the Cali Fin jerseys, thanks to @aliceinbondageland.bsky.social taking this picture I can memorialize my Cali Fin-inspired outfit tonight. Not exactly the jersey (which I think I wore once this season) but maybe thematically similar?
Sharks have just enough. Top line connects, Smith scores, 3-1. Then another Hawks PP goal from Nazar, but San Jose holds on and gets 2 points. Not dead yet!
There are reports that the Sharks are retiring the Cali Fin alternate jerseys after this season, so this might be our last look at them coming out of the Shark Head. San Jose really needs a win tonight against the Blackhawks… we’ll see what happens!
Last night at the Sharks Pride Game it was wonderful to see the Teal City Crew banner flying again. A long time fixture at the Shark Tank, the Sharks apparently asked their supporter group to take it (and the accompanying Pride flags) down this season b/c sponsor exclusivity? Up for Pride tho
It’s the Sharks Pride Game and at the first intermission the Sharks lead the Maple Leafs 2-0. Ostapchuk and Graf with the Sharks goals. Smooth Jazz, who works in many media, did the design for Pride Night this year but outside of the auction jerseys I can’t find any merch with this design 🙁
I don’t know why, as an adult, I cry whenever I watch a manned spacecraft launch, but I do. And I did This graphic got me choked up too
The space program was of surpassing importance to me as a kid. Family friends were engineers for NASA contractors. Apollo, Skylab, the Shuttle: all big deals 50+ years later, today NASA is sending astronauts back to the moon (once around, not a landing) and I am verklempt
You get a little one of these for winning your region but I don’t think that’s the one they really care about
