“I-” the betrayed and marooned pirate captain gaped at the disturbingly perceptive creature of myth and legend. He gave his head a small shake as if to clear the subject from his mind as much as the conversation. “What is your name?”
“Lan Zhan,” they replied. “What is yours?”
“I'm Wei Ying,” Wei Wuxian said with an odd, enthusiastic affect he had never known himself to use. “It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” He nodded sharply before falling back to the floor and resuming his blind gaze at the ceiling. Distant thunder rolled, and a strange sort of chuckle bubbled to his lips. His chest shook as he was reduced to an uncontrollable giggle fit until his mirth bounced wildly off the cavern walls.

When the mad shrieks of laughter finally paused long enough for him to catch his breath, Lan Zhan stared at him nonplussed. “Are you finished?”

As strength slowly returned to his body, Wei Wuxian reached for the spot where the blade broke his skin. It hadn't yet begun to scab over, but he could feel the divot in his flesh, roughly the length of his little finger. His hand clenched into a fist and slammed into the shallow water with a splash.
The scream trapped in his chest escaped in an anguished howl, swallowed by the rush of the sea and the whistling wind.
Sitting up slowly, he gazed out at the vast expanse of water, stony grey beneath the gathering clouds. Thoughts of revenge whirled fiercely in his mind, fighting back his despair with vengeance.
Then, he saw it.
In the rocks just offshore, something resembling a human head peered at him over a large stone with a flat top washed smooth. He blinked. The head vanished, but a long, fish-like tail of pale blue dove into the water with a splash.

Any time you like.” He leans over to pick up his messenger bag and stands. “I can show you how it’s done.” With a wink and a suggestive bounce of his eyebrows, he sweeps from the shop.
Lan Zhan stares at the departing alpha’s back with wide eyes. *What on earth is that supposed to mean???*
