Morning folks, my vision for the “junglification” of the #bottomofthegarden is slowly taking shape. The expt’al bed now has a permanent fixture … the musa basjoo (hardy banana). More enjoyable pondering needed. Have a quality day 😀👍🏼 Q. Is junglification a word? 😂 #neologism #anticipation
Good afternoon folks, a few pics from the garden this morning. The Eucomis Bicolor - stately, elegant, interesting, structural, beautiful … all seem appropriate. The Jersey Tiger moth (aptly named). A Southern Hawker Dragonfly (I think) at the pond … & an “in your face” lily! 🤣👍🏼 Go well today
Good morning folks, it’s all about the purple & the red at the #bottomofthegarden today … & it’s ever so slightly cooler! Whatever you’re doing, have a good one & … #staycool 😀👍🏼
Good morning folks, a busy day ahead with Downend @UKMensSheds at the #FrenchayFlowerShow so some early morning work on the #reclaimthejungle project. Experimenting with plant positioning. The Cannas are going to play a big role methinks. Have a great day & #staycool 😀👍🏼
You’ve gotta love a water butt! In these days of long, hot, dry spells, & with a 300ft garden to nurture, the efficient use of water is paramount. I’ve not finished my water collection scheme for the garden … but I’m well on the way. Have a good w/e folks 😀👍🏻
Good morning folks, it’s a “from this to this” post today. Yesterday, I made my first batch of pesto of 2026. The small bag of supermarket basil has grown … and grown. Yesterday it was classic pesto, next it will be a chilli pesto, then, who knows? 😀👍🏻 Go well & #staycool
Good morning folks … 🎼“Isn’t she … pretty in pink”🎵 … for those who can remember the glorious Psychedelic Furs. These beauties grew wild in what has become a nursery bed. They are a glorious flower & a testament to nature’s continuous wonderful surprises. Have a safe & cool one 😀👍🏼
Good morning folks, finished the 05.30 walk with big dog. Just watering a few pots in the new experimental bed next to the pond & bothy. It’s not far off in terms of how I want it to look. The Tetrapanax will fit nicely into place (& go big!). Have a good day 😀👍🏼 #staycool
Good morning folks, I’ve been up since 05.30 watering … & reflecting on the plan to inject colour into the veg patch (lucky to have the space to do it). It’s working well as you can see. The Corten wild flower rings are great & the dahlias … boom! Never seen a “Melilot” before! Go well today 😀👍🏼
Good morning folks, I don’t post many pics of what we call the “middle garden” … so here are a few. It’s about 30x15ft & is intended to have a “walled garden” feel. The “hive” is a compost bin. On pic 3 you can see the arch that leads to the screen garden … & beyond! #infinity Have a great day 😀👍🏻
Good morning folks, like most of you 🤣, at this time of year, I ponder this question “How much of a gardener was Busby Berkeley?” … perhaps I should be asking “Are poppies fans of his musicals?” … … or “Have I got too much time on my hands?” Have a good day 😂👍🏻 #whimsical
Good morning folks, I’ve been rallying the garden troops to launch an attack on marauding black fly attempting to sabotage the broad bean crop. However, I’m a little disappointed with discipline in the ranks! Some of the troops seem a little … distracted 😳 Have a good day 😀👍🏻
I’m not one share family stuff on here but I couldn’t resist sharing this exchange with my eldest boy last night/this morning 😂🤣
This year, I’m injecting colour into the vegetable patch. As well as the Corten ring beds, I’ve got Morning Glory & Spanish Flag accompanying the climbing veg. I realise that not everyone has the space (or inclination!) … but I’m loving it. Have a great day & stay cool 😀👍🏼 #companionplanting
Good morning folks … hot! Most of my gardening chores done. I’m pleased with my experimental bean/pea arch across 2 raised beds. The edible climbing pea is winning but the climbing bean is on the move 😀👍🏼 I love the veining on the bean … so delicate! Have a good one & mind the heat! 👍🏼 #sunblock
Morning folks, it’s more blessing than curse, but from Spring onwards, I tend to rise with the light. One of the many benefits is the opportunity to experience the peace, the quiet, the emerging light, and to savour the delights of shrub, bloom & tree. Enjoy your day & … the “top garden” 😀👍🏻
A “zero-five-thirty” good morning folks from the #bottomofthegarden The welcome rain will peter out as the day progresses but the garden has bloomed. The Cardoon, Iris, Cirsium, Poppy, Eremurus, Water lily, Rose & more, all flirting with my imagination as I walk the garden path … have s good day 😀 👍🏼
Good morning folks, a few pics from plants around the pond. The eremurus (foxtail lily) is standing tall & proud, the first of the poppies is about to explode, and there’s a serene feel to the start of the day. Whatever you’re doing, have a good one … 😀👍🏻
Good morning folks, the Montana “Rubens’” is slowly fading on the arch. The rose “Dublin Bay” is now asserting itself … as is the Golden Hop. I’m training the hop to frame the corten panels … I think it will work! It’s such a vibrant, vigorous & reliable climber. Go well 😀👍🏼
The trachycarpus at the #bottomofthegarden is showing a soupçon of character! 🤣😂👍🏼 This is the first time it’s flowered & whilst I wouldn’t be tempted to say it’s beautiful … it’s certainly interesting. Hope your weekend is treating you well 😀👍🏼
Morning folks, a few pics from the r-hand border at the #bottomofthegarden It’s all going according to plan! The 2 acanthus have filled a gap(& are about to flower), the ginko has settled in, & I’ve just planted the Catalpa Bignonioides (love that name) or Indian Bean Tree. Have a good day 😀👍🏻
Good morning folks, such a colourful time of year in the garden. I always love the progress of the Scilla, each stage of the flower opening is a joy. The rose “Golden Shower” is spraying us with blossom 🤣, & the poppies are giving it some “neon”. Whatever you’re doing, give yourself some space 😀👍🏼
Good morning folks … progress on raised beds! When building these beauties, I always mount them on breeze blocks (prevents rotting at the base), & leave gaps in the base to create bug hotels. I’m now a hotel landlord! Payment is in the form of pest prevention 🤣 Lots more to come. Have a good day 😀👍🏼
Just had a look Carol. We’ve had them for a few years so couldn’t track down where we bought them. Also had a look on Amazon & they’ve got some that look exactly the same. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful
