I just lost my father suddenly and tragically. We were supposed to go fishing, shoot pool, go bowling, in just a few days.

I have been enduring an incredibly painful situation regarding his death. He should be here.

I feel like half of me was lost to the void.

I'll be taking some time away as I'm doing the arrangements for him, but thank you to everyone who has sent words of support and love

his princess will become his knight. I will fight for his dignity. And what he deserved. Love you forever and always

even if his body has been improving, he doesn't show signs of ever waking up. im in absolute disbelief at how much the US healthcare system failed him. I feel like I failed him. I feel like I'm watching everything happen but it's not real, this isn't me this isn't my dad i want a restart button

tw: hospitalization

for the last 72 hours I have been living a nightmare. my dad was taken to the ER in agony on Thursday and had wait for 6 hours just for a bed, and despite the ER knowing he needed life saving surgery, was unable to get that surgery until 6 hours after that. The pain put immense strain on his heart causing him to have two cardiac arrests, where they had to perform CPR on and off for 30+ mins. Once he was back they decided to do the surgery. But even as his body has improved, his neuro activity is minimal. Fuck American healthcare. Fuck this world. My dad should be waking up.

I spent today talking with him, listening to his favorite songs, and reading poetry. i don't know if he can hear me or if it did any good but all I can do at this point is hope for a miracle. he should be talking with me, laughing, bowling, playing pool with me, going fishing like we planned next weekend.

Don't let scalpers rush you. Set spending limits.

Items are only worth what you're willing to pay.

Q: SO YOU'RE SAYING WE SHOULD PAY SCALPER PRICES????

A: No. While I don't think we should reward scalpers, it's only natural that with scarcity, the value of items increase, especially if they're rare or unlikely to get a reprint. "Scalping" and "Reselling" has a fine, nuanced line I don't have enough space to talk about here.

Q: What if my grail figure is only available for (thousands of dollars)?

Only you can determine your limits. But you should never get into debt or sacrifice your livelihood for shiny plastic. Figure collecting is a fun hobby, but it's also about luck and a LOT of money!

There's a lot of nuances to secondhand figure buying you might not consider! Patience and timing is everything 🙂‍↕️

WHAT WAS THE ORIGINAL PRICE?

Before anything else, know your baseline. The yen is weaker than the dollar, but after shipping and fees, roughly 100 yen $1 USD on the aftermarket.

It's not exact, but it's a solid starting point for any import figure.

You can easily find retail info on MyFigureCollection, which is a great resource we'll keep coming back to!

IS IT OUT OF PRINT?

My rough estimate: every year a desirable figure is out of print adds ~10% to its value. Example: This Ciel Phantomhive figure retailed at ~$80 USD in 2020.

Being a popular or main character can sometimes double the price of a figure on the aftermarket if it's favored by fans.

Factor in 6 years out of print and his popularity as a main character I'd expect to pay $160-250 on the aftermarket.

IS THERE CHARACTER TAX?
