Thinking about Bears Ears National Monument and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument... and their vital natural, archaeological, and cultural importance. Because this does not endure by accident - it endures when it is seen, valued, protected, and simply allowed to be.
We learn something new every day: the trees lining the fence near the parking area at the Ballard Locks / Chittenden Garden are Sequoiadendron giganteum aka giant sequoias! Yup they have a name tag. (always thought they were Western red cedars). Def worthy of #ThickTrunkTuesday! #Seattle #Ballard
#fridayflowers from the Seattle waterfront! Enjoying a walk on this gorgeous sunny day. Have a great weekend everyone!
Yes, it's lovely. There's also the aromatic International Rose Test Garden (free) with more than 10,000 individual rose bushes! - and the wonderful Portland Japanese Garden (tickets) nearby. Along with playgrounds and Oregon Zoo (which we did not visit yet) this a fabulous area to spend the day.
Happy #ForestFriday! 🌲 Sharing some pics from last week's visit to the 410-acre Washington Park in Portland, Oregon. Its miles of trails wind right into Hoyt Arboretum, home to 2,300 species of trees and shrubs from six continents. Both are free to explore. #portland #nature #takeawalk #talltrees
Why we love #DiscoveryPark in #Seattle so much! #beavers #nature
Scenic drive around Vancouver, WA and Ridgefield last weekend — rolling countryside, quiet roads, charming towns, but the real surprise along the way: a large number of giant sequoias on lawns and in parks. This majestic specimen (with its own sign) was planted in 1882! #thicktrunktuesday #trees
The Portland Japanese Garden is a wondrous green textural delight! If you visit - we recommend booking the free tour when you order tickets. Very informative!
#thicktrunktuesday from Lake 22 trail in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest near Granite Falls WA Moderate 5.4-mile RT hike gains 1,350 ft as it winds through towering trees & lush fern-covered understory, culminating in a stunning alpine lake nestled within a glacier-carved basin. Recommend!
Happy #forestfriday from today’s superb hike to Lake 22. Have a great weekend everyone #pnwlife #hiking #wastate
Family outing at Golden Gardens Beach today... #Seattle #pnwlife #birding #ducklings
Don't miss the trail down to the lower viewpoint at Snoqualmie Falls — you'll pass some incredible nurse trees along the way! #waterfalls #trees #nature
Bike rode to Alki Beach in West Seattle and took the Water Taxi back for a fun shortcut. Love the skyline view! Happy Fourth of July!

What a joy to see so many enjoying the Seattle waterfront tonight. Pike Place Market open until 10 pm for Welcoming the World Night Market (pls do it more often) - celebrating Mexico’s win - beautiful weather- and the mountain was out!

Loved this park! Stunning rock formations (can't get more than 1 gooseneck in a photo). What the park makes up for small size, is trying to fathom that the carved canyons formed 15-20 million years ago & the rock layers settled 300+ million years ago... mind blown. #parkchat
