UCLA's chief financial officer leaves his post effective immediately four days after telling the student newspaper that UCLA has mismanaged its finances for years and now faces a $400m+ deficit. A UCLA spokesperson wrote that his deficit numbers are incorrect and that the deficit is much lower.
Local L.A. news tip: The WeHo location of Crunch Gym is set to close March 31 because Crunch can't come to aa deal with the landlord for a lease renewal. This gym is POPULAR and much-liked by many in the area's large gay community. Hetero women also appreciate the gym (fewer flirty straight men).
The CSU board approve LB State prez pay package. It also approved raises for four vice chancellors at the chancellor's office. The raises range from about 5% to ~20%. The raises follow an analysis that shows CSU execs make less than the median for similarly sized systems (including UC, SUNY).

The AMC at The Grove lost sound for Marty Supreme during the last preview and the full house is making up songs that the crowd can croon to. We've already sung "happy birthday" to a 17yo in the audience. AMC staff can't seem to fix it yet, but did ask whoever is smoking inside to stop. #losangeles
NEW: 9th Circuit partially stays EPA + NEH grant restorations at UC, ruling that a district court judge didn't have jurisdiction to restore some of the grants + that the Court of Federal Claims should handle it. This is a wonky order + it's unclear if it affects UC NSF, NIH grant restorations.
Is it me or did the five justices of SCOTUS who sided with Illinois against Trump re. National Guard deployment basically say that the president must invoke the Insurrection Act, deploy the military, and if that doesn't address the alleged lawlessness, only then can the National Guard be deployed?

Back from 10 days of vacay and now I'm at Los Angeles federal court to follow the CA Prop 50 lawsuit. Key question: Are the new maps that favor Dem lawmakers to pick up seats in Congress drawn as partisan gerrymandering or racial (changing Latino representation in new districts). Hearing is 3 days.
After several dozen UC students shout at UC regents over their discussion to continue raising tuition, the Regents asked police to order an unlawful assembly. Moments later, UC police holding batons and wearing face shields approached the students, who left the area. Regents now returning to meet.
