No matter which 'Odyssey' translation you read, there is an overwhelming presence of enslaved men, women, and children. M.I. Finley's study, 'The World of Odysseus' takes on this issue in chapter 3, 'Wealth & Labour'. Reprints of this book are starting to appear. #Slavery #TheOdyssey #BookSky 📚

This is a photo of the short story collection entitled 'Troubled Waters' by Ichiyou Higuchi who was the first Japanese woman to support herself and her family from her published works. The cover has a black and white photo of a woman at a doorway looking out at a garden. She holds a fan and is wearing a formal kimono. Ichiyo Higuchi wrote at the end of the 19th Century, her stories were immediately popular and continue to be read today. Her importance to Japanese culture was honored by the government; from 2005 to 2015, her portrait appeared on the 5,000 Yen bill.

The incoming 2026 class of 'plebs' has 332 women and 855 men. 3,582 women applied for admission to the 2026 class. This is a color photo of the front of President Abraham Lincoln's family home in Springfield, Illinois. It is a 2-story wooden house with green shutters on the 2nd floor windows. There are stairs to the front door and a front porch which is accessible from the front parlor. The Linden Tree broke in two yesterday, and the top of the tree fell onto the sidewalk and the street. This was the only home Lincoln ever owned. Today, it is a museum run by the National Park Service.

Spring weather has returned, and so perennials that overwintered in the garage have returned to our patio to join some new potted annuals. #BlueSkyGarden 🌱🌿 #BloomScrolling 🌻

Large pot with American Geranium with its first red blooms. It is next to a succulent in a smaller pot. The patio has recycled red bricks and it borders a precast stone retaining wall.

Three pots on our patio with newly planted orange and yellow mariogolds as well as one pot with yellow zinnias. Behind them is a pot with a dwarf evergreen bush and to the left is a Yarrow plant, which will bloom later in the summer.

Are there any other DVDs or remastered LPs of Mildred Bailey's recordings? In the 1980's there was cassette called 'V-Tapes' of her radio broadcasts during WorldWar II, but I have never found it as a DVD or remastered LP. I have this DVD from a British jazz web store. Any ideas? #JazzSly 🎷 #Jazz 🎼

A single white gardenia in bloom. The petals slowly unfold and the perfumed scent increases, but the flower does not linger more than a day.
