Since it's been way too hot all over the world this summer, I'm sharing some previously unpublished photo that look refreshing.

For the hoof section, the EVA shell looks better if you cover it with synthetic leather instead of painting it. Attach the horseshoe last. Then, just make the hand parts using fur or faux fur fabric, and it’s done. It’s very easy.

I found a photo of a hoof I was working on, so I’m posting it here. I’m using a heat press to shape a slightly firm, 5mm-thick piece of EVA foam. If I make the inside of the hoof big enough to fit my finger, the size and shape will be just right.

Since the topic of hooves is still coming up, I’ll post some reference material before I forget. This is Clarabelle’s foot before it was painted.

One of the challenges I face when making masks is deciding how much to stylize the features. The ideal shape varies quite a bit from country to country. A general principle I follow in all my mask-making is to avoid making the nose too long and to maintain the overall appearance of a human face.

This is the layout inside Umabei’s hand. The black hoof section is hollow, so it extends all the way to the tips of his fingers. (It also helps him grip objects.) At the time of creation, this was a stopgap measure taken to prevent the hooves (hands) from becoming unnecessarily long or oversized.

Taking a 20-minute break from work. I saw an illustration of a hoof on my Twitter timeline that looked interesting, so I decided to whip one up. An interpretation like this would never even occur to an ordinary person like me.

I was prototyping some parts. One of them was a recreation of a rubber bellows—a method for using a sewing machine to create a flexible component for the neck and elbow joints of robot-style costumes. It’s difficult to make the fabric look like rubber or metal.
