This week, I signed Jaleeyah’s Law in honor of a bright young girl whose life was cut too short. We must address the root cause of gang violence by giving young people a better path. This law makes it easier for prosecutors to crack down on gang activity and protect innocent North Carolinians.
Their enthusiastic embrace of our country and its ideals provides a refreshing reminder of just how blessed we are to call this remarkable nation home. To our new fellow Americans, happy Fourth of July!
It was a joy to begin today’s celebrations at a naturalization ceremony at the North Carolina State Capitol welcoming 47 new citizens to our American family.

Later came the Ocracoke Lighthouse, which still stands as one of the oldest operating lighthouses in the country and the oldest in North Carolina. It was great to visit a little more of our nation’s history with Anna.
The passenger ferry to Ocracoke Island, which is operated by NCDOT and its ferry division, is part of the Outer Banks National Scenic Byway. Anna and I were pleased to say thank you to the dedicated staff who keep the ferry system running. We also got to catch some beautiful views!
Thanks to the cast and crew of The Lost Colony outdoor drama for giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the production that’s been an Outer Banks tradition for more than 85 years. Anna and I are excited to spend our weekend exploring some of what the coast has to offer!
It was great to meet with some of its dedicated volunteers yesterday and spend the morning sorting and distributing food.
Thanks to the Bernard Allen Emergency Drinking Water Fund, the family received a water filtration system that cleans their water so they can trust it. In North Carolina, we are going to do everything we can to remove forever chemicals from our drinking water and keep you safe.
When our boys brought home the Stanley Cup, Caniacs proved that Raleigh is ready for the big stage. The excitement, visitors, and economic boost from the Stanley Cup Finals was great for the businesses that call Raleigh home.
There is no better way to honor North Carolina’s First in Freedom legacy than by gathering at the State Capitol on the Fourth of July to celebrate this country. I hope people from across the state will join us in Raleigh for a day of music, food, history, and family fun.
