"Pivot to video" is a phrase referring to the trend, starting in 2015, of media publishing companies cutting staff resources for written content (generally published on their own web sites) in favor of short-form video content (often published on third-party platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok). These moves were generally presented by publishers as a response to changes in social media traffic or to changes in the media consumption habits of younger audiences. However, many media commentators have argued that this shift was primarily motivated by advertising revenue, and that only advertisers, not consumers, prefer video over text. The pivot's contribution to job loss in the media industry has given the phrase "pivot to video" an association with decline, especially in a business context.

Commentators have also noted a lack of transparency and accuracy in the viewership metrics reported by platforms such as Facebook, pointing out that abrupt shifts in platforms' proprietary algorithms can have devastating effects on publishers' viewership, traffic, and revenue. Following a scandal in which Facebook revealed it had artificially inflated numbers to its advertisers about how long viewers watched ads, many journalists and industry analysts concluded that the shift to video was based on such misleading or inaccurate metrics, which created a false impression that there was customer demand for additional video content.

Immigration agents were faulted more than a decade ago for tactics that have fallen under intense scrutiny in the wake of a fatal shooting of a motorist in Minneapolis.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection attempted to block a scathing 21-page report in 2014 that found agents had deliberately stepped in the path of cars to justify shooting at drivers and fired gunshots in frustration at individuals throwing rocks from the Mexican side of the border, reported the Los Angeles Times in February 2014.

“It is suspected that in many vehicle shooting cases, the subject driver was attempting to flee from the agents who intentionally put themselves into the exit path of the vehicle, thereby exposing themselves to additional risk and creating justification for the use of deadly force,” stated that report, which was commissioned more than a decade ago by CBP.

While talking to Frodo in the Shire, Gandalf's face turned gold & rippled up just like this pic. I got sick immediately lol

When I watched LotR while tripping on mushrooms, Gandalf's face turned gold and distorted into these same spiral shapes. It was so overwhelming to me that I immediately became nauseous and stopped watching the movie. It took several hours of the trip to recover.

In 2024, reacting to a video from YouTuber Ms. Rachel, in which she talks about the importance of "love thy neighbor" in the Bible, Kirk paraphrased a passage from Leviticus that advocates for stoning gay people, calling it "God's perfect law when it comes to sexual matters."

"By the way, Ms. Rachel, you might wanna crack open that Bible of yours," he said to camera. "In a lesser referenced part of the same part of scripture is…in Leviticus 18 is that, 'thou shall lay with another man, shall be stoned to death.' Just sayin'."

Posters claimed Ivana was #Epsteined, a reference to the death of Jeffrey Epstein, prominent child sex trafficker.[97] A postponement of testimony was granted to the Trump family.[98] The same day, the office of the Medical Examiner ruled said "The manner of death is an accident and is not suspicious."[99]

The James Webb Space Telescope's (JWST) latest extragalactic survey has revealed fainter and more distant objects than ever before, some dating back to the earliest periods of the universe. But it stands on the shoulders of a giant: When NASA published the Hubble Ultra Deep Field image in 2004, it stunned the world of astronomy. A composite of 800 images from exposures totaling 11 days, the deep image of an otherwise unremarkable part of the night sky revealed nearly 10,000 galaxies, many among the most distant known.

Now, JWST has observed that same patch of sky with different eyes, and found 2,500 more objects. Crucially, they're even more distant.

JWST's new take on the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, named the MIRI Deep Imaging Survey (MIDIS), is the deepest-ever mid-infrared image of that part of the night sky.

The extraordinary new image is the result of nearly 100 hours of observing time using the space observatory's Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) and Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). It includes hundreds of extremely red galaxies, some of which may date back to less than a billion years after the Big Bang.

At the core of the composite image is one ultralong exposure. Using just one of MIRI's filters, JWST took an exposure of the night sky for 41 hours — the longest single-filter observation it has performed of an extragalactic field to date. The plan was to capture galaxies in mid-infrared light — something neither Hubble nor human eyes can detect — which also revealed previously unseen regions of dust and old, red stars.

In the video he expressed his skepticism against gender affirming care for trans kids. He called it "tough." After decades of the affirmative model, it is no longer reasonable to be skeptical about GAC for trans kids. Something folks miss about bigotry: it only has to be unreasonable & stubborn.

Wound up replacing my drum set recently. My old, larger Gretsch Renown Maple drums are superseded by my new, normal-sized Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch kit, which has one additional tom tom. These drums sound so damn good both in the room and under the mics. Both in Piano Black. Loving it so much!
