building data centres chasing illusory profits from the not-yet collapsing ai and llm speculation bubble is ignorant, foolish, and is maliciously irreverent to the state of the planet's current climate troubles. not only would this result in the theft of public power and water for no gain to the community, there is never going to be a mythical payday for this sort of development so will leave the council the worse off. there are few worse uses for land than golf courses, but modern data centres are definitely one of them. i'd compare this sort of behaviour to the dutch tulip mania in the 1630s, but at least they got flowers out of that. if this project goes ahead, i will take notice, and will remember come future election days.

last night i played my first game of plastic mans since 2001

my craftworld aeldari force (2000pts) set up on a gaming table that has a snowy base mat, and a scattering of green/yellow 3d printed terrain features

the game in question - warhammer 40k 11th edition, at a LGS's "Learn 11th Edition" event night. army pared down to 1000pts, my craftworld aeldari force against a black templars army. my aeldari are pushing the middle while the astartes respond to my first turn surge. we muddled through set-up and deployment and two turns before the event ended.

vale isaac. you were the one single unproblematic member of the 00s auckland goth scene. you made the world a better place than you left it.

a photo taken at a goth night in the mid 00s. i'm in the middle, one of my dreadlocks got caught up in my glasses, lol. lilly sits to my left (your right). isaac sits beside me. i must've just finished telling a joke, or a story, as he is laughing uproariously. he lived passionately. what i remember the most of him is him being the most honest, most intense, the most unconventional of everybody i'd ever known. he was an english teacher and he must have left thousands of teenagers better off than when he met them, and who can claim that sort of impression on our lives? he was one of the best of us, and i'll miss him.
