The final days of camp are filled with with a pure distillation of joy, bonding, and bittersweet goodbyes. If you hadn't been to camp before, you are now wholeheartedly accepted into the greater camp family.
If you have old bleeding disorder camp photos or video and would be willing to share them with the world, I'm on the search for archival material for my upcoming documentary feature film The Big Stick! If you do, please reach out to us at: info@factoreight.org
When I started this project, I was genuinely worried that camps like this were disappearing. Camp H.O.N.O.R. is the reason I know that's not the whole story. — Nicholas Van Buren
"I think nature is a huge, important part of being in this planet. You have to understand how things work, there's animals running around, there's little critters, there's things you gotta be prepared for. It kinda helps you be prepared, which is a huge thing about being a hemophiliac" Andrew Heinze
While it's true that men and boys tend to suffer the worst of the symptoms from this hemophilia, that doesn't mean that women and girls don't have potentially life-threatening issues that will affect them for their entire lives.
"There's a lot of adults I've met that never have been to a camp. They've never been uncomfortable at a talent show in front of a bunch of people they've been hanging out with all week. They've never had to [try] to figure out how to be independent when you're 10 years old." - Andrew Heinze
The very center of bleeding disorders camp is the "self-infusion", and it's at the very center of my film. "The Big Stick" is a term used all across the US for the first time that a bleeding disorders patient is able to self-infuse, that is to stick themselves in a vein with a needle.
"I was thrown away by trees. The only trees I knew were lampposts. All my whole life was just sidewalks and concrete and asphalt. So to see trees, and to see clear skies and to see stars , it was really like throwing me on another planet." - Tony Hernandez.
"When you talk about camp to non-camp people, they're just like, 'That's so fun.' And I'm like, 'But it's not just fun. It's weird. It's like a wormhole.'... I feel like one week out of the year, I'm home. It fills my cup so hardcore." - Venus Alvar
"Camp teaches you to do so many things that that cannot be taught really in school, it's an experiential way of learning. You learn things by doing, you learn how to how to make friends, how to resolve conflicts, and how to be silly and not take things so seriously. "- Andy Blackledge
Now for an event that Camp H.O.N.O.R. is known for THE SLIME FIGHT! Who doesn't want to throw multicolored slime around at your friends and family, and of course, while everybody has white shirts on! #chronicillness #bleedingdisorders #thebigstick
After a long, full day at Camp H.O.N.O.R. I sat down with Destinee Orville. "It's basically Christmas in July. Bleeding Disorders Camp, it's special." It can be easy to overlook how much a chronic illness affects not only those with the condition, but the entire family, loved ones, and friends.
"Once you connect with another girl who's had in the same situation, you kinda create that bond... I have a lot of friends who don't have blood disorders, and it's like there's that gap... they're not gonna understand me the way the people here understand me." Ariel Aguilar
I grew up at summer camps like this one. I'm a severe hemophiliac, and these weeks are where I learned to take care of myself and found a community I'm still part of today. More to come!
In 1983, Dr. Don Francis pounded a table at the CDC and asked officials a question that would go unanswered for years: “How many people have to die? Give us the threshold of death that you need in order to believe that this is happening.” (1/9)
@artlist_io I appreciate the "Made with AI" tag on your stock video. PLEASE increase your moderation of non-tagged AI video or allow a way to report it. It's making your video library unusable. If I want AI video i'll make it myself. I subscribe to Artlist for REAL VIDEO.

I never got to go to a post-season game, but I was at the All-Star Game with my dad when the 2001 Mariners were at their peak. I’ve been a fan since then. While this series isn’t perfect, the Ms are still one of the last 3 teams in baseball. I’m so glad my dad introduced me to this team. #mariners
Irony makes this sound accidental. This man spread hate and fear while dismissing the deaths of children as the cost of liberty
Some of my favorite stills from the highlight video I created for Camp HONOR! This was the first bleeding disorders camp I filmed as part of my ongoing documentary feature bleeding disorders, and their legacy in America. #CampHONOR #Documentary #Hemophilia #BleedingDisorders #FilmProject
@cinderellaicious.bsky.social Hi Shelly, can you confirm this?
Browsing through an old Advanced Dungeons & Dragons book from ‘95 to find this note on pronouns. While the solution for this problem has evolved over time, I enjoy seeing that they felt the need to acknowledge this 30 years ago.
What a thrill to see Bernie and AOC live in Tempe! These two give me so much hope for the future I only hope they can inspire more democrats to rise to the occasion.
“It sounds like Americans are ready to see someone stand up to a powerful Russian” This man is afraid of nothing tonight. I aspire to have the confidence of a retired talk show host.
Did NOT expect No Other Land to win Best Documentary Feature. Well done academy
Fun Fact: the “Doge” of the Italian crowned republics in the 12th-16th centuries was heavily surveilled and any malfeasance discovered after their reign would be charged to their estate. #DOGE #Musk #olygarchy
