We need to give charities and the third sector in general the resources it needs to deliver responsive community based person centred support.
Scotland must meet the mental health challenges of the modern age. We need to not just invest more money but make sure it gets to the right places to have the greatest impact.
Really pleased to be able to go on the BBC this evening and talk about what Andy Burnham’s announcements on mental health mean for Scotland.
This weekend I did something marvelous. I and some members of my LGBT running club to Newcastle to take part in their pride run. Gay men, gay women, trans people & straight allies all running together - this is the real LGBT community, living our lives in pride, solidarity& love. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
One of my best friends lost her seat yesterday. She was a brilliant councillor, hard working, dedicated, passionate, solutions orientated. She didn’t lose her seat because of her. She lost it because of Keir Starmer. He needs to go. @florawilliamson.bsky.social thank you for your years of service ❤️
Yesterday we opened our doors to partners across the third sector, national and local government and asked them to tear our draft strategy apart. Honest challenge, tough questions, real collaboration. This is the kind of openness we need to meet the challenges of our time.
Have just completed my first ever oil painting! I’m very proud of the lemon and ashamed of the lime (which now looks like an apple)! Painting with oils gives you lovely textured and excited about how much more I have to learn!
Proud of what we have achieved and excited about what we will achieve in the future. #ChangeMentalHealth #Leadership #ThirdSector #Scotland #Impact
None of this happened alone. It took an outstanding teams and the trust of people across Scotland. Leadership in the third sector is tough, but it’s the greatest privilege of my career.
• Strengthened governance and systems • Launched our Quality Improvement Framework • Modernised salaries and HR/finance • Boosted our national influence • Protected vital mental health services in Edinburgh and won • Built a culture that puts people first • Become an open and values-led organisation
When I joined in 2021, we were a very different organisation. Since then we’ve: • Rebranded • Reached 10,000+ people a year • Almost doubled income • Grown services incl. CLWs, DBI and a full National Advice & Support Service
🎉🚨 Big soppy post alert 🚨🙏 Today marks 4 years as Chief Exec of Change Mental Health. It’s been an extraordinary journey and today I’m letting myself feel proud of what we’ve achieved.
Great to hear from @thomascarthur.bsky.social today at the @ccpscotland.bsky.social members meeting about his commitment to work in partnership with the third sector and towards community wealth building which of course charities like @changemh.org are absolutely essential to.
What a fabulous trip to Sweden. I loved getting to discuss international perspectives of mental health in the work place and to meet so many fascinating people. Even more I loved getting to visit the Vasa Museum which I have wanted to go to for years!
A brill day opening our new @changemh.org resource centre in the heart of the community in Dumfries town centre. Early intervention & preventative support for people with challenging mental health and mental illness, helping to prevent them going to hospital & improving their lives. #MentalHealth
Someone decided to be very brave today and re-enact some scenes from the Lion King!
Last night @changemh.org held a parliamentary reception to champion and share best practice in early intervention and prevention, particularly in mental health. Every £1 spent on early intervention saves the health system £15 down the line. We need leadership and bravery to prioritise & invest.
Wow. Gordon Brown at the Gathering today has been inspirational. He is so passionate about child poverty. It’s so refreshing to hear the policy and structural changes that could make the difference on not just child poverty but also in the third sector, the state & private sector working together.
Getting excited to share our interim report at the Scottish Parliament tomorrow… we already have some great learning and best practice to share! Early intervention and prevention is the answer to many of the struggles our health system is facing.
Our wee kitten Boq got his vaccinations today and has been such a brave boy but he is now very sleepy!
Here are some pictures of our new baby! How name is Boq and we are, predictably and regrettably obsessed.
Great to hear the First Minister set out his plans for Health and Social care in Scotland - much of it sounds ver sensible but we need a commitment to more investment in early intervention and prevention to relive the pressure on the NHS.
Holocaust memorial in Miami is a haunting reminder of what can happen when hate and intolerance are allowed to fester and when the cruel and wicked are allowed to wield power unchallenged.
A ticket between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Should cost between a fiver and a tenner if you ask me.Talk about what’s holding back Scotland’s economy….
It’s been 20 years since I went to China to teach English as a wee 18 year old. I learnt so much about myself and developed some amazing friends who are still with me today, and some who are no longer with us but whose memory I treasure ❤️🇨🇳❤️
Wicked was magnificent. Absolutely loved it and 2 brilliant lead performances! Hard recommend!
LGBTQ+ young people think scotland is becoming a worse place for them. How utterly disheartening.
