It's almost done, already are the chorizo and Provolone. Haven't done asado un ages!
We are improving our setup to measure fluorescence in corrole polymer nanoparticles. Using a homemade UV filter we really improve the sensitivity of the camera. Still need some way to reduce the parallax error. #realtimechem #chemsky
Gallium corrole crystals!! First ones we make in the lab! #realtimechem #chemsky #science
For #fluorescencefriday a short video of the first gallium corrole we made in our group. It's hard to tell in the column but the Ga complex is much more fluorescent than the free base corrole #realtimechem #chemsky
Purifying the corrole! It looks pretty doesn't it? #realtimechem #fluorescence #chemsky
It's not the most #fluorescent of my videos but there has to be at least 300 mg of #corrole in that flask! #fluorescencefriday #realtimechem #chemtwitter
Today our student Valentina defended her MSc. in Biotechnology thesis: Development of Polymeric Nanoparticles with Fluorescent and Photosensitizing Corroles. She gave an excellent presentation about her top quality work. I cannot be more proud of her! #realtimechem #chemsky
Today my students obtained quite a large amount of dipyrromethane. It's the first time for this particular one that we obtain such a clear batch, so we already that purity is going to be high! We finally polished what I think is a very versatile synthesis #realtimechem #chemsky
Still need to do some checks but it appears that we can quantify our analyte.
Some new and improved experiments using our fluorescent corroles. I made an illuminator and am using a UV/blue filter to enhance the sensitivity of the phone camera. We are doing preliminary sensing experiments, where an analyte increases the #fluorescence #realtimechem #sensors #chemsky
Another excellent consequence of ChatGPT and the like. I have to do this now all the time, and it's just to see the abstract page as I don't even have access to the papers. I have a deadline of a project tomorrow and I can't even check references.
Today I had help measuring the output power of the LEDs that we use for photodynamic studies. #realtimechem #chemsky
And here is the same corrole under UV light for #fluorescencefriday #chemsky
I had a few vials with impure corrole so I decided to do a small column. I never get tired of this color! #realtimechem #chemsky #porphyrin
This week two new UG students started in the lab and we attempted to make a dipyrromethane. The reactions most likely failed, but still it was nice to get back in the lab. I'm exhausted now! On Tuesday we will try again. We stopped the reaction too early!
I'm almost finished with my wooden table with foldable legs. Still needs some screws, stoppers to stop the legs from folding if someone pushes the table, some sanding and termination. For my first carpentry project I'd say it's okay. I learned a lot! Definitely better than doomscrolling!
