Here's one of my favorite slices of banter from my upcoming T4T farm romance!

“I’m not sure chickens have the same complex experiences with gender that… some people have,” Robyn said, undoubtedly thinking about Dawny and Kitt. “But hens can actually transition, rarely. I read it online. It’s kind of an intersex related thing with their ovaries, I guess.”
“These fuckers have ovaries?” Ash took a cautious step back, but the hen advanced. Ash hid behind Robyn’s shoulders.
“Well, sure. Where did you think the eggs came from? Come here, sweetie.” Robyn picked up the hen. Its head remained gyroscopically stable.
Ash took another step back, putting distance between himself and the terror bird. “I don’t know, man. I just eat ‘em.”
“Wait ‘til you find out how they reproduce.” Robyn smiled. “Roosters don’t have phalluses. They have cloacas. A single all-purpose hole.”
“The fuck? Then why do they call them cocks? And where—”
“They scissor their cloacas together. That’s how.”
Ash blushed. “That sounds… pretty gay.”
“Yeah,” Robyn said. The hen’s beady eyes and her weird, steadicam head kept staring right at Ash. “Aren’t they great?”

Robyn is a chicken farmer so she'd pick Torchic. If Browt from Gen 10 stays chicken-shaped, she might prefer that because fire is scary. Ash would choose Toxapex, because he can sympathize with a scared little guy who does toxic shit to protect itself. Full teams and explanations in alt text.

Exeggcute (chickens lay eggs. That is surely the only connection between Robyn and eggs.)
Pumpkaboo (the farm grows pumpkins!)
Sylveon (Robyn will vehemently ignore any questions about why this Pokemon is on the team)
Sudowoodo (Robyn was a woodworker, who also appreciates how some things are not what they seem)
Mega Sableye (faintly resembles the shadowy ghosts on the mountaintops, and a big crystal may or may not be relevant to something here)

Arboliva (grew up on a vineyard)
Shiny Mimikyu (a scary little guy always hiding)
Toxapex (a scared little guy hiding in a shell who has to do toxic stuff to protect itself)
Azumarill (for no particular reason. But did you know 75% of Azurill are female, but only 50% of Azumarill are? 25% of Azumarill are transmasc, and that's a fun fact that has absolutely nothing to do with Ash's affinity for this Pokemon. Yeah.)

Drafting on my next novel is going slow but steady! It's out of my genre comfort zone but I'm really excited about this one. For now, my WIP has the extremely tentative working title "Farm Fresh Eggs." I'm certain that will change whenever I think of something more on theme or genre-appropriate.
