i have a very specific interpretation of sonic's motivations during Shadow The Hedgehog (2005) #sonadow

Sonic the hedgehog, in a simple sketchy style, saying "My name is Sonic the hedgehog and freedom is very important to me"

Black Doom and Shadow the hedgehog in the same sketchy style. Black Doom is saying 'SHADOW, YOU ARE MY PROPERTY. MY VESSEL. YOUR WILL IS FORFEIT.'
Shadow, meanwhile, is dazed from Black Doom's hivemind powers and is understandably distressed.

In fact, look at this Sonic Channel piece by Uno Yuuji, found here! sonic.sega.jp/SonicChannel... Not only is she not afraid of water, she's got her own flippers and regularly dives to check on the coral reefs of her realm.

Blaze the cat, in a purple wetsuit and flippers, swimming in the ocean and surveying a vibral coral reef. There is the silhouette of a shipwreck in the background, and her attention is caught by a treasure chest filled with gems in the corner of the image.
