Part 2/2 💔😭

"Isn't that the life you saved me from?"
Lilith's hands are clutched to her chest. Her eyes plead to her husband. But again, it appears that he is miles away from her. Lucifer's eyes meet Lilith's, his stare is intense and certain.
"Lilith, if I 'saved' you, then why are we stuck in this dark fucking pit for all eternity?"
Lilith blinks, unsure if she recognizes the man before her.
"That's what you think?"
"That's what I know."
Lilith feels tears well up to her eyes, but she refuses to let one fall.
"So we're just doomed forever, then?"
Lucifer now attempts his plea to his wife, so that she might finally understand.
"That's our fate, Lilith! I didn't decide that, it is our punishment! It's out of our hands! That's why I keep telling you— it's why we have to just-"
Lucifer meets his wife's tearful eyes. He sets aside the urgency of his tone, and breathes in. He softens, and gently continues,

"We just have to rely on each other. Cope through it together. Like we promised we would always do."
"Always?"
Lilith glances at her ring finger. A tear finally falls from her face. She looks back to Lucifer, who smiles at her, reassuringly.
"Always."
Lilith turns back to her ring finger, and removes the ring from her hand. It feels like she's lost something of an indescribable weight—like an anchor or a shackle or a limb.
"Then... what choice do I have, Lu, but to break that promise."
Lilith holds up her ring, using it to encircle her husband's face. He looks like someone she knew, but not quite the same as the person she loves. Loved?
"Wh-ha, I-l'm sorry—what?"
"For the sake of our daughter..."
Lilith sets her ring beside her plate. She finally stands from her seat. Her hair defies physics again, but as if a gentle wind is passing through her.
"Woah woah —wait Lili, this is—it's just another tiff between us, hold on-"

Lucifer jumps out of his seat and appears before his wife in a puff of red smoke. He reaches for her ring on the table. He attempts to grasp Lilith's hand, but she gently dodges his touch.
's not just another tiff, Lu. It can't be. If I want a change,
I have to make one, don't I?"
Lucifer looks up at his wife. Somehow, she looks even further away from him now, then she did just moments ago.
"J-just hold on—"
"Like you said, for the 'hundred thousandth' time...I have to see that my efforts are pointless, right?"
"Lili, please, please wait-"
Lucifer attempts to find his loving wife in the eyes of the Queen before him, but what he sees is utterly unfamiliar. A most careful pity. The Queen makes her declaration,

"I don't want to doom Charlie. I don't want this family to live a doomed life forever. I refuse to accept that."
"Lilith, wait!"
"I'm sorry."
"Lilith!"
Lucifer clutches his chest, doubling over. The pain he feels is immeasurable. He opens his fist to find his wife's ring and watches golden dust fall from his hand. He begins to panic.
"No no no no!"
Lucifer falls to his knees, attempting to collect each speck of dust. He drops to his elbows, struggling to breathe.
"This can't be happening."

Is This It?
On an innocuous night in the Royal Castle of Pentagram City, the Morningstars are finishing their dinner together.
Their young daughter, Charlotte-also known as
'Charlie'— has already been escorted to bed by a pair of faithful, dragon butlers. As Queen Morningstar, Lilith, picks at the remainder of her dinner, she enthusiastically concludes a story about her latest rally for 'A Sinner's Right to a More Equitable Afterlife!'
"You should have seen the unity in the crowd, Lucifer! It was...a complete marvel, truly!"
The Queen takes another bite and chuckles.
"Ha, well, until Prick and Hatchet started a brawl, but you know how those two are."
The King-Lucifer Morningstar —lifts his teacup for a drink, his eyes fixated on his phone's screen. He monotonously responds,
"Well you know what I always say;
I don't know why you try with them."
The King glances up at his wife, taken aback by her synchronized echoing of his response. Queen Lilith doesn't lift her eyes to meet the King's, instead remaining focused on her plate. She says, through gritted teeth,
"I am so sick of hearing that."

Lucifer sighs and returns his gaze to his phone. "Well, I don't know what you want to hear from me, Lili."
"Gee, I don't know—it would be nice if you even pretended to give a shit, Lulu. Instead, I have to compete for your attention with a fucking phone!"
Lilith's hair begins to defy physics, moving in sync with her rising anger. Lucifer closes his eyes slightly longer than a blink, furrows his brow, and magically dismisses his phone from his grasp.
"Dear, I'm sorry, but it's just the same story every time. You gather a bunch of sinners together and ob no! A fight breaks out and ruins everything. And what are you left with? Just more sinners eager to cause more havoc. I mean, it's been 10,000 years, sweetheart! You'd think you'd learn to stop wasting your time."
"That's what you think I'm doing? What I've been doing all these years? Just wasting my time?"
"I don't see this town changing, do you?"
Lilith scoffs in disbelief at her husband's arrogant tone.
"Precisely."
"You know, Lucifer, sometimes, I don't even know why I try with you."
"What's that supposed to mean?"

"You judge these sinners like you're just sooo above it all but you're not! It's been 10,000 years, and what have you changed exactly?"
"After everything we've been through, you can't honestly tell me I'm the same as those..sinners!"
"No, you're not the same! At least they give a damn about my fucking cause!"
"Eugh, dear, they're just taking advantage of your talents!
You seriously think those souls go to your little rallies because they support you?"
A silent beat. Lucifer knows he went too far. Lilith looks at him with seething anger.
"Wow. Fuck you."
"Th-that came out wrong but, c'mon honey, you can't possibly believe that they sincerely support you?"
"What would you know? You're never there!"
"Because for the hundred thousandth time, it is pointless, Lili!"
Lucifer's horns erupt from his forehead, his eyes turn red in his frustration.

"I've seen you torture yourself for this cause since the beginning of humanity! I just—" Lucifer takes a deep breath, his horns retracting and his eyes returning to their usual yellow sclera, "I just want you to save yourself the hurt."
Lilith stares at her husband, who seems miles away at their dining table.
"Save myself the hurt? Lucifer, we've been together for 10,000 years and all you have done is burt. Am I supposed to just lock myself away like you have? Only going out to party and using all your power to provide gifts to your friends?"
"That's not all I-"
"Meanwhile, you remain surrounded by endless suffering and do nothing to stop it!"
Lucifer rolls his eyes. Lilith, infuriated, drives her point home.
"Is that the future you want our daughter to have?"
"This has nothing to do with Charlie-"
"This has everything to do with Charlie! She is the future!
Hell's future! Our future! And you would resign her to an infinite life as a caged bird?"
"Now hold on -"
