More poets, fewer fascists. AI artwork sucks.
I really wish people would stop cutting and pasting other people’s posts without attribution.
I will, however, remember this one, in part because it has some of the worst cover art I’ve ever seen. The dude on the upper left (1983 GOP Chicago mayoral candidate Bernard Elton): what part of that, exactly, is his mouth?
Suspiciously reminiscent of “Allegory of Death” by Malcolm Bucknall, 1992.
My other one is I Married Dora, canceled midway through its sole 1987 season. Elizabeth Peña is a housekeeper in a sham marriage with her single-dad boss Daniel Hugh Kelly so she won’t get deported. It’s Juliette Lewis’s 1st role, as Kelly’s daughter. I remember thinking her acting was abysmal.
Name a TV show you’re positive no one remembers but you. I have 2: first, The Two of Us. Ran for 20 episodes in 1981-82; remake of ‘70s UK show Two’s Company. I think probably monthly of Dana Hill yelling “HE’S ABOUT AS EXCITING AS GEORGE BUSH” about one of her single mother’s prospective beaus.
Bell’s Oberon Ale/Grateful Dead mashup sticker seen in May on wall of men’s john in vaunted Chicago dive Rossi’s
I don’t wanna take anything away from anyone using The Exorcist vis-à-vis the current White House, but I must share this 1974 record I have.
Me, delirious with exhaustion, knowing full well I’m wrong: “Surely nothing comes between Toad the Wet Sprocket & Traveling Wilburys” Also me, stumbling into kitchen where I forgot a stack of LPs that fall between those bands (Pete Townshend, come on), requiring me to redo an entire shelving unit:
If you ever wanted to hear Elvis Presley do multiple Marshall Crenshaw covers, this album is the closest you’re gonna come.
Went to an old school garden center today in Niles, Illinois. Was nice to get out of the city and avoid corporate plant and flower sellers for my partner’s annual festooning of our deck. The gardening business at this location dates to 1871. The Shure company’s headquarters is in the background.
Every single time I read the name Graham Platner I misread it as Graham Parker
As of yesterday, following the death of Sonny Rollins, everyone (aside perhaps for random children who wandered into frame and plopped down next to Count Basie) in the 1958 photo A Great Day in Harlem, taken by Art Kane for Esquire magazine to document the jazz scene, is now dead.
RIP Ike Willis, vocalist and rhythm guitarist in Frank Zappa’s band 1978-1988. One of the longest-serving musicians in any Zappa lineup.
RIP Dr C.C., Clarence Carter, the king of strokin’ and sassifyin’ all the way to age 90.
I think No Treasure but Hope is the best late Tindersticks album, but here’s another one I love:
Very weird fog in downtown Chicago today that from my vantage point seemed to engulf ONLY Trump Tower. Fun to imagine it was some sort of papal smoke retribution.
