I wonder when TfL is going to upgrade the Silvertown Cycle Shuttle and the (appalling, indirect) cycle routes that link to it to a quality that means they can go onto the Cycleways map?
The thermometer does graphs, so you’re not even safe from that content when I go on holiday. My weather station is sad and sending me urgent notifications to stay in the game.
Got too excited on the train into Paris and started taking lots of photos of the shading on blocks of flats.
Appreciate there is TOO MUCH FOOTBALL on the BBC News home page but maybe they could include an explanation on the difference between these two fixtures?
It’s definitely a bit of a microclimate in my garden in SE26 - always a little bit cooler in the evening, but there’s pockets of lower temperatures all over London. Fingers crossed this carries on into the weekend!
It’s actually nice out! The heat’s held off a bit and theres a breeze. This is more like the June I remember!
Also promoting scam air conditioners during a heatwave where there are health warnings for Londoners - The Londonist.
I suppose the Evening Standard is sort of covering the scandal of scam air conditioners - er - carrying adverts for scam air conditioning. This really shouldn't be normal. The supposed main news source for a city in a heatwave shouldn't be selling scam products.
I mean, the shading is great but it’s Not Good that the flat still warms up over the week and trends towards 27C inside. Thankfully it’s a dry heatwave so misting actually does make it feel cooler. That plus my World of Fans made yesterday evening quite pleasant somehow.
Not a great night’s sleep but at least I’m up to grab the cooler air into the flat.
Two miracles - plenty of green lights so I could just make the 08:52 shuttle (it is truly absurd having to cycle to try and catch a 12 minute frequency bus). - and a cycle shuttle with working air cooling of some form.
And then now home via the FIRES OF HELL ITSELF. (Nobody waits on the bus, not even the driver)
The hottest, sweatiest and most unpleasant part of cycling to work. Not the cycle, the Silvertown Cycle Shuttle. No wind on the bike to cool me down and the bus has sat in the sun for ten minutes before you get on. Mad really, as like any tunnel Silvertown is actually quite cool underground.
Today's venting result: 24.4 down to 22.1, with the flat slowly stabilising up to 22.9 as the outside warmed up. A good thing at this time of year is sunset stays roughly the same but sunrise keeps getting later, so the moment when it's worth venting in the morning isn't always crazy early.
No more itv Tour de France coverage. Having to make do with the French coverage where the host is merely wearing a t-shirt. Standards are down from the Gary Imlach era.
Calling this a win. Actually no hotter inside the flat even on successive days of hot temperatures outside. Admittedly I have increased the shade a bit through the week. Think it’s actually good guidance to get people to check what works in their own home and max their own DIY shading.
Nearly 34 degrees now in SE26 in London. Somehow kept the flat to just over 26. 🤞
Today’s extract shade on the sunny side is two large suction cups and a bit of tarp. (Annoyingly finding suction cups that actually stay is a nightmare - even these cheap bits need some standards to make them more reliable)
I cannot understate how good the ceiling fans are. Admittedly both are just cheap USB fans hung up but really the best fans by far.
Morning fan time. Admittedly getting the flat down to 22 ish won’t last long but it’s a worth a go… and fingers crossed the flat ventilation system will remove any humidity I import.
Well, that was definitely some weather overnight in London. Woke up by thunder & lightning. I make that about 23mm of rain in one hour around 4AM for Sydenham, SE26. More energy and more heat doesn’t just mean higher temperatures. And a more energetic, unprecedented climate is harder to predict!
