Text: The food arranged was not set out on plates or serving platters but attached to winding vines, sprouting from both the table surface and hanging from the ceiling in thin blood vessels and fibrous tendons, ready to be seized. Too, small creatures hopped around dining aisle, robbed of their self-preservation instincts and ready to be grabbed and swallowed whole with ease. It was a delight to feel the crunch of bones between their teeth, the snap of coral and the slurry of tastes filling the creatures bodies dripping down the throats of their suits. A strange mouse had on its back an outgrowth of bubble-like algae pearls that shined in blues and greens and Glish picked it up delicately between her claws to feel its body collapse under her false teeth, the algae popping like boba with tastes salty and tangy.

I’ve drawn some things for Cascadara that sort of give the vibe. It focuses on two characters, Enere and Daedalus, and the toxicity of saviorism as it leads to obsession and resentment.

[ THE FALL OF CASCADARA ]

They sat amongst pews in the main hall, lit only by what light made it through the colored glass of the facade. At the front, behind an altar, was a mural in stained glass, illuminated only dimly, occluded by the several other layers of colored glass the sunlight had to go through before making it inside. Strange angels in white with a multitude of branching, fleshy wings and multiple eyes were shown on it, holding onto to people and pulling them away from the black mass at the bottom as they made their way to the top of the mural where a bright light was shining down.
Daedalus was hunched over, holding himself with the full effect of the weight on him, and spoke quietly to the priest. “It’s not even the war,” he confessed.
“Things have changed so much these past two years,” he continued on. “It isn’t just me, the whole country had been preparing for this. But now that we’re here, I can’t help but think on the time that I lost. The time spent preparing. And it wasn’t just charity that drove me,” he said, looking up at Rei. “It was arrogance. Pride. To think that it somehow fell to me to make a difference. That it was my responsibility.”
“You are only a mortal man, General,” the priest said in pained admittance.
“What good is a mortal at a time like this?” he said, the bitterness in his voice becoming audible again.
