Do I, on the opposite side of the political spectrum from these pundits, have opinions about what Republicans should do? I sure do. They should fall to their knees, grovel before their false gods, beg forgiveness from the oppressed people of the world, and reverse all of their political beliefs. It is fine for me to share all of these correct thoughts. But I hardly expect Republicans to consider this to be advice. I do not share their goals. I want their entire political project to fail. Imagine me pretending to strike the pose of Analytical Observer Whose Guidance Should Be Considered Valid Because It is Purely Strategic in Nature. Why the fuck would I do that? And why would they ever believe me? I could never have a genuine thought about what Republicans should do in order to help Republicans. I do not want to help Republicans. Such a thought would be contrary to my entire nature. And if I ever did have a useful idea to empower Republicans, why would I ever share it? I might as well write “A Burglar’s Guide to Breaking Into My Home While I am Out of Town This Weekend.” The very act of writing such a piece would reveal me to be either an undercover cop or a moron.

God damn, this is brilliant.

The ultra-wealthy don’t have to do any of this. They pay people to do it for them — cooking, cleaning, shopping, you name it. There are no periods of the day where they are forced to figure out how to entertain themselves in the face of repetitive chores. If you don’t use it, you lose it — so maybe a lot of them lose introspection. In fact, they can offload any cognitive activity they don’t enjoy! That’s what subordinates are for, isn’t it? And whatever gets consistently offloaded, they lose.

But, worse, they don’t notice they’re losing any skills because they are constantly surrounded by people on their payroll, or people who want something from them. People who are, you know, aggressively financially motivated to flatter them and agree with them. If that yes-man tendency in chatbots is what’s driving AI psychosis or social skill atrophy in normal people, then the same thing has already happened to the very rich.

In late October, Abughazaleh accepted the maximum individual contribution of $7,000 from James Cox Chambers, the billionaire grandson of the founder of Cox Enterprises and former Governor of Ohio, James Cox.

Chambers’ net worth is estimated to be $6.8 billion, according to Forbes, landing him in the middle of Forbes’ lists of America’s 400 wealthiest people.

After Evanston Now reached out for comment about the donation and the ad, Abughazaleh’s campaign said they had missed the donation and planned to donate it to the Niles Township Food Pantry, pointing to a campaign promise made in July where she said, “if a billionaire donates, we will refund [or donate] their money.”

Chambers is listed in Abughazaleh’s campaign finance reports as a “self-employed/farmer,” under an Upper West Side Manhattan address. The “farmer” part of his listed occupation in FEC reports likely refers to his ownership of an organic farm in the Hudson Valley, though not listed is his stake in the Atlanta-based media empire his grandfather founded. He has donated to many other campaigns under the same or similar listed occupation.

Chambers is also married to Naibla Khashoggi, the daughter of a former Saudi businessman and arms dealer, Adnan Khashoggi, who died in 2017 but amassed a fortune of over $4 billion for himself through arms sales.

I still think about the article in the WaPo about conservatives trying to date in DC. Lmao.

If she had it her way, she would be married and expecting her first kid. She says a lot of her colleagues at the American Principles Project, a conservative advocacy group whose website says “in order to save America — we have to save the family,” are settling down and having children. But it’s rough out there. When we reached Housley by phone, and she told a co-worker that she was discussing dating in D.C., a voice at the other end of the line could be heard saying, “Oh nooooo!” So, that’s where we are.
“I felt like, being in conservative politics, there would be more, like, masculine men in the conservative movement,” Housley says, “and I find that a lot of them aren’t as masculine as I would have hoped.”

He explained that the CIA would need to freeze all the assets in my name, including my actual bank accounts. In the eyes of the law, there was no difference between the “real” and the fraudulent ones, he said. They would also deactivate my compromised Social Security number and get me a new one. Then, by monitoring any activity under my old Social Security number and accounts, they would catch the criminals who were using my identity and I would get my life back. But until then, I would need to use only cash for my day-to-day expenses.

It was far-fetched. Ridiculous. But also not completely out of the realm of possibility. “Do I have any other options?” I asked.

“Unfortunately, no,” he said. “You must follow my directions very carefully. We do not have much time.”

There really is nobody better at this kind of essay than David J. Roth. Nobody.

A life in conservative politics is a shabby, grifting thing; that movement is a sweaty and stupid scrum of influencers and opportunists and true-blue sociopaths scrabbling for monetizable attention or one of the lucrative public-facing sinecures funded by reactionary billionaires.

The cost to one's immortal soul aside, that work is demeaning. It demands from those doing it the sort of always-on workload and rolling state of pericrashout inherent to video game streamers, but with much more onerous hair and makeup requirements. The work itself is very easy, and amounts for most of those in the industry to honking away on their specific instrument of grievance in a way that's roughly in time with the sounds being made across the rest of the conservative media space. There is no way to create a symphony out of clammy self-interested buskers who (correctly) understand their job as being louder than everyone else, but the goal here is not the creation of anything beautiful or even coherent so much as it is the making of constant, obliterating noise.

Arundale once thought Trump was the best thing for the United States. Now she was puzzling through her own politics. Even as Trump promised mass deportations last year, Arundale saw nothing incompatible about supporting him while she continued the work she was doing. “He talked a lot about criminals,” she said. “So I was like, ‘Yes, take the criminals.’ I told people he [had been] president already and he didn’t do this. I never thought he could rip people away from their families.”

In a twist that will be shocking to nobody, she claims to have been "not political" for most of her life (which I usually take to mean "doesn't read the news" in a best case scenario), but whoever liked Israel most was her major issue. Also anti-LGBTQ policies.

For most of her life, Arundale never considered herself overtly political. A practicing Jew, she usually voted for candidates who most strongly supported Israel. In recent years, Arundale drifted further to the right. She didn’t like President Joe Biden’s Israel policies. She believed in two genders and that trans women shouldn’t play girls’ sports. In her progressive neighborhood, bookstores sold titles like “The GayBCs.”

“I love my gay friends, but they are over-sexualizing kids,” she said.
