Wizard cop. B-list situationist. Used to be cool. I am interested in British politics and detective stories and woodlice and goofy movies about misunderstandings.
On the occasion of Sir Keir Starmer's last ever PMQs I thought I should perhaps share some of my favourite goofy Starmer photos that I've collected over the years. Here he is getting a haircut when hairdressers reopened during Covid
in my first ever bar job I was going down to the cellar to get more ice and made a joke about how dangerous it is to fly it in from the north pole and everyone looked at me like I was a complete idiot and pointed out that you could just make it in a big freezing machine
This has reminded me that many years ago I wrote a terrible poem about Ann Widdecombe going on Strictly called Rehabilitating Right-Wingers Through The Medium Of Dance
the lettuce thing wasn't particularly funny but 100% the fact that Liz Truss was visibly infuriated by it was
idk man, it's just told me that there's essentially a talking horse and a murderous stoat motif in Great Expectations that I don't remember from when I read the book
The total electorate in Haltemprice and Howden was approx 69,000, and the electoral commission estimate a cost of £3.07 per elector in 2007/8 and £3.74 in 08/9, so at an average of £3.40 that's a cost of £234k www.electoralcommission.org.uk/sites/defaul...
No British novelty political candidate can hold a candle to the 2024 attempt to get the 700,000 year old glacier Snæfellsjökull to become the president of Iceland on the basis that it qualified being at least 35 years old, hold Icelandic citizenship, and have no criminal record. (It didn't work)
it probably won't but this does have the potential to become the Mandelson vs the Monkey election of the 2020s
this has reminded me of when those lions got Covid and I mentioned it on a zoom call with my family and my parents spent most of the rest of the call wondering how you get the test swab up a lion's nose safely
honestly I thought the fact that the Brighton captain went to Euro 2024, didn't play for a single minute and spent the whole time playing with lego instead was funny enough but this beats it by a mile
This is his nearest SSPX church but I *think* the Church of Our Lady of Glastonbury (SSPX) is different to The Church of Our Lady St Mary of Glastonbury (the one Rees-Mogg attended). But it would be VERY FUNNY if it wasn't and he got excommunicated.
Ok so I'm now intrigued by this. Rees-Mogg got into trouble during Covid for travelling 15 miles to go to church specifically because he wanted to attend a Latin mass, which is something that is very SSPX coded (but not necessarily SSPX)
I have now discovered that since the closure of their church they still do mass in a residential house in Brighton's fashionable eastern suburbs. Fascinated by our local weird tradcath scene.
this has inspired me to see if we have a local SSPX church and am happy to report that it closed in 2018 and is currently a healthcare warehouse. Fascinatingly the facade dates from 2002 - it used to be a garage!
this is another example of the drink-driving-clair-de-lune tweet irl
In 1997 when Tony and Cherie moved into Downing Street there was a rumour that they had murdered the then-Downing-Street-cat (Humphrey) and the press speculation reached such a furore that the Blairs ended up issuing a photo of Humphrey with that morning's papers to prove he was still alive
