Second day of 'The Fetal Archive' workshop today in London with curators, biologists, philosophers, geographers, geneticists, historians & sociologists from 7 different countries. We're looking at how we understand, interpret, display & analyse, historic fetal & embryological remains.

We rallied while Council met to approve plans to cut 600+ FTE jobs (approx. 16% of staff), course closures (modern languages, music, nursing, American&Canadian Studies, chemistry), SSRs rising to 1:25 & cuts to research time. There is no real deficit, just incompetent managers. @uonucu.bsky.social

Yesterday, I took my 6yo to Chatsworth Hall. Loved the farm, the playground, the maze, the trees. She took one look at the Cavendish family tree in the entrance to the gardens and said, "Baba, why are they all peach?" Yes, why do only peaches grow on English aristocratic family trees?

Council is hiding behind locked doors with security guards blocking corridors but they can't escape from the anger of over 200 staff and students condemning management's incompetence and protesting course closures and redundancies. Who is the university? We are!! @uonucu.bsky.social
