I’m not defending the conduct of Lumumba here (he took a bribe!). But why is there is a division of the FBI dedicated to entrapment of public officials with cash bribes?

The sting that birthed these charges began when FBI agents approached multiple
Jackson politicians posing as real estate developers in 2023. Eventually, the agents invited Lumumba and Owens on a luxurious excursion in Florida, where, aboard a yacht, the undercover agents offered them cash bribes in return for helping to move the hotel project along.

Slaughter is right on point though

Reading about Soylent Green and, honestly, its not far off

By 2022, the cumulative effects of overpopulation, global warming, and pollution have caused ecocide, leading to severe worldwide shortages of food, water, and housing, bringing human civilization to the brink of collapse. 5! Ari Shtein, a real winner

The Ann Arbor man's LinkedIn page says he started at Yale in August and is slated to graduate in 2029. He has a regular column in the Ivy League university's Daily News that "mostly consists of the airing of grievances," according to his about-the-author blurb.
His most recent piece for the student paper, which was published in May, criticized what he described as discriminatory hiring practices in academia biased against white men.

In another article the student published to Substack in January, on his account, "Mistakes Were Made," Shtein lamented having to attend a workshop about bystander intervention in response to sexual violence.
"You might be wondering, why? What the hell is wrong with this guy? Why does he let himself get so worked up over a silly little Mandatory Bystander Intervention Training; it's just an hour of nonsense — what's an hour, in the grand scheme of things!" Shtein wrote.
"What hurts me is to be treated like an idiot. Like a moron. A retard. Like someone who needs to be told that he ought 'be alert to things that make [him] feel uncomfortable.' Like someone who needs a whole damn motherf—ing framework, an hourlong lesson and a pamphlet, to intuit the link between 'a bad thing is happening' and 'I should intervene to stop the bad thing! I want just a modicum of respect. A damned iota."

Because it is? It’s the messages immediately proceeding him going over. Not worth arguing about since he’s (hopefully) dropping out today. But *Politico* is not an outlet that deserves the benefit of the doubt, ever.

Racicot told Jake Tapper during her CNN interview that Platner had "taken something that I said as an invitation" before she subsequently texted him not to come over. Tapper did not follow up to ask what the content of the message was, and did not respond to a request for comment from Drop Site. Politico, in a statement to Drop Site, did not dispute that the outlet was aware of the "glute masssage" text, and said that it would update its reporting if further information arose.
According to a spokesperson: "This story is based on extensive reporting and interviews and reflects our editorial standards. In interviews with us and in accounts she gave to other outlets, Jenny Racicot said that she told Graham Platner not to come to her home and that he nevertheless showed up there uninvited. POLITICO gave Platner and his campaign ample opportunity to respond to our reporting and to provide any information or documentation they believed contradicted it. If presented with information that materially challenges our reporting, we will report it."
Platner is expected to drop out today.

Yeah, listen, don't get me wrong, I am not saying Roberts, Barrett, and Kavanaugh are pure beings who never consider politics. But I think there's a difference between institutional politics and engineering policy-real-world outcomes, right? Institutional politics happens every day be ween and among all nine Justices, right? But look, if Roberts's goal was to undermine the wide perception that this is just a hopelessly, ideologically split 6-3
Court, I think he made progress in that.

This guy Honig seems like an absolute dullard. He defines “political” as justices either voting for the President 100% of the time or not. Chotiner explains that politics is more nuanced than that, bc Roberts simply isnt as far right as Trump, and he’s like “wow, interesting never thought of that.”

First, how do we define political? I think, generally speaking, that criticism means this is a 6-3 conservative supermajority, and when push comes to shove on all the big things, they're just gonna go 6-3 for Trump. I think what we all basically mean when we say a Justice is being political is that they're starting from the bottom line. They're starting from the political or policy or real-world outcome, and then reverse-engineering the legal analysis, the math calculation, to give them the desired result. And I think what we mean when we say that Justices are being nonpolitical is they're just doing some faithful version of the math equation, and living with the result, whether it aligns with their ideology or not.

Isn't it possible that someone like Justice Roberts is making political decisions, but he's just not the extreme conservative that Donald Trump or Clarence Thomas is? So he could be making his decisions based on his ideology, and, as one lawyer said to me when I was talking to him before this interview, his politics are those of the Reagan Justice Department in the nineteen-eighties, which was conservative and political but not exactly MAGA. And so he's making decisions based on that ideology, and that means he votes with Clarence Thomas most of the time, but not always. But that can still be political, right?
Well, that's interesting. I'm just trying to think about which example would work best here.
