As part of the project “Islands of Accessibility” I created a A3 hand-built Art Book. I love the experience of flipping through such a large book and uncovering each page. This link will lead to a PDF of the book. It’s quite a short book. heyzine.com/flip-book/37...
I’ve spent the last year working on a project called “Islands of Accessibility”. It seeks to highlight the experience of non-drivers in a world not designed for them. I’ve started an archive space on instagram if you fancy following along there. www.instagram.com/islands_of_a... #speiregorm
Someone (me) took way too long to pull this one down from my dusty to-be-read pile. An incredibly accessible rad so I shouldn’t have let myself be put off: “Theory as Liberatory Practice” and “Language” stand out chapters for me that I will revisiting over and over again #booksky
“If people show you who they are; believe them” Prof Amanda Kirby over on LinkedIn referring to Suzanne O’Sullivan’s book “The age of diagnosis” as “excellent”. If you need any references on the book search the author’s name on here, and decide for yourself if you think it’s “excellent”.
Honestly, the Cork City libraries just keeps delivering for the little legend in my life. Look at this week’s bootie! (She also picks out novels and graphic book: but I get nerdy joy from her love of non-fiction) #Booksky #SpeirGorm
#Booksky finally getting around to reading this one. I think it needs to be accompanied by an Edvard Munch Scream image to represent my existential dread.
Being a dancing animal and seeing some great looking babies is good for the soul, the body and the high street! “Happy Cities” @charlesincities.bsky.social is a great read.
One day I won’t get to live with someone who brings me rocks* in bed, while I’m sick. “Mammy, is it okay if I bring you another rock?” *later I will return these to our neighbour’s gravel driveway 🤣 #speirgorm
I keep track of her books on a private Goodreads account. This is another one from and she wrote a review: “There is a lot of death. Kids who don’t like that might not like this book. But I thought it was a really good book“ 🙈 in fairness, she mainly reads about fairies, dragons and airbenders!
Graphic Novels are quite popular here: Anne Frank and Malala’s life story. The “shelf talkers” in Tory Top library are phenomenal. Herself (8 at the time) handed this to me and said: “Mammy I think you should read this one”: I did and I cried twice.
Time to dust this old chestnut off and ask the children to gather around for story time.
Isn’t it magnificent! Some very cool adult back in the 80s knew their stuff when they chose the mixed species! A wonderful community has supported their growth and care since. The bank of trees must act as a great wind break from the south westerlies.
Oh! The other request was for “pink cake” too which I thought was much easier to interpret
Anyway salad cakes continue but in less formal displays. I love these little meals we have together: no pressure, take the veggies you prefer. I’ve no real point here just the joy of sharing food and our particular family tradition in our home.
Scam Alert: #Speirgorm share this to your friends, not just older people. Anyone of any age can be hoodwinked with this kind of thing!
It’s not rocket science, it’s rock science! Older child has stopped rolling her eyes when I do the science voice and seems to be getting in in the nerding. Gorgeous low winter light casting long shadows in Youghal. Celtic Interconnector prep site on view. #SpeirGorm
For comparison, here is a reading from our bathroom on a December morning in 2023, after an hour of high output gas heating on for minimum one hour: still only 13’C inside. Outside temp that day was 2’C.
Heat pump diaries: Seems some eejit (it was me!) Knocked off the heat pump yesterday evening by accident. It had dropped to 16.5’C by this morning on a night when it was -3’C outside! So the insulation is keeping us fairly toasty anyway. #DeepRetroFit #Heatpump
Soft pants, lap blankets and doggie cuddles. Icy work from home days are awful 🤗
How pretty: completed my #GoodReads book reading challenge of 50 books in 2024 with 8 days to go! 51 next year? Let’s see how many I get through in the next week! #SpeirGorm #BookSky
A few stills of the space - you would never know we are still living on a building site 😂 #SpeirGorm
Our Christmas tree in the hallway. We still are only living in part of the house after the #DeepRetroFit - soon we will have it all back in use. This year the hallway is getting the works! #Speirgorm
The amount of scam phone calls and texts I have been getting have hit a peak at this point: AIB text from the same number as I normally get AIB updates. And phones calls/texts from UK, Belgium and Philippine numbers. Keep your wits about you! #Speirgorm
So, changing the air filters on the Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation System in Cork City. Wait until the end for outside air filter. This is after 2.5 months, with coal fires only really kicking off in October or so.
