moment, nor can I get the innocence of a young girl being asked that question by her mother. In the 1971 thriller KLUTE, the serial killer Arlyn Page says, "There are corners in every person's mind that should never be exposed." Why did I bring this up for TENDER HEART? The writer has tapped into a dark corner and written this without handcuffs or a net. This was a true peak into the macabre world of Annette who's been coping with a secret that she can't seem to comprehend or conquer until she accepts it for what it is. Overall, TENDER HEART is a solid short subject with significant merit. Great job!

Sooooo when I entered A TENDER HEART into Final Draft’s BIG BREAK contest, I asked for feedback and omg it was so good!!! While we don’t know the QFs until late August, I’m thrilled with this reader’s response!!!

TENDER HEART is an imaginative and well-conceived short subject that kept me on the edge of my seat. Short subjects are either created as a calling card to showcase a writer or filmmaker's talent for future assignments, or as a proof of concept for a larger work such as a feature or a series. In this instance, the writer can check off both boxes because this is an exceptional short subject. As a standalone it was easy to envision on the large screen at a festival, and it was also easy to see how this concept could be expanded if the writer chose to do so. Sometimes I can tell if a writer has a knack for a certain type of genre.
It's most prevalent with comedy which I've always believed can't taught in a classroom. Comedy writers either have it or they never will. What does this have to do with TENDER HEART. This anonymous writer has a knack for horror which might sound kind of creepy, but here--it is a "good kind of creepy". The tone of TENDER HEART kept me wondering where this story about Annette and her childhood trauma was headed and the pay-off hit the bull's eye. The visuals of the hairless baby mice in the bucket with Loretta repeatedly asking her young daughter, "Did you eat it? Annette, baby, look at me, did you eat it?" Well---that was chilling to say the least. I can't get that bucket of mice out of my head at the moment, nor can I get the innocence of a young

Artworks in the A or kusozu [ku-SOH-200] tradition, showing the stages of decay of a human body, were created as a meditation tool for Buddhist monks. By studying the human body as it returns to nature, practitioners deeply consider impermanence and work to detach from the physical form. Kusozu continues to be used for meditative practice today.
