Dr. Nettrice R. Gaskins (born September 25, 1970) is an African-American digital artist, educator, and academic. An advocate of STEAM fields, her art often explores Afrofuturism. She has worked with Ruth E. Carter in producing concept costume designs for Sinners using generative artificial intelligence (AI). Sammie Moore's outfit was an exact replicate.[1]

In 2024, Gaskins was approached by Ruth E. Carter to help create costume designs using GenAI. She penned in a Medium post, "While it's still too early to divulge most of the work I can reflect on what it was like working with a costume designer who was already exploring GenAI and using existing tools to generate concepts. Ruth and her team had done a lot of research prior to the use of GenAI such as collecting 1930s photography of the Deep South and fashion illustrations in mainstream magazines." Gaskins had to first read the script then used the tool MidJourney and uploaded images and prompts. Reference materials were used, and if Carter liked the sent thumbnail, Gaskins "would upscale it or make additional changes using [MidJourney's] Vary Region editor."[3]
