Update on Buckingham Measles outbreak: Good news - we are still at 0 cases in BRHD. This is a testament to our vaccine rates! Reminder: MMR vaccination is the best way to prevent measles and it is safe and effective.

I took the week off from posting updates but the measles didn’t….cases still rising in the Buckingham County outbreak.

Statewide measles cases up to 141 for the year.

Today’s measles updates….current cases in Buckingham are up to 99 cases. Also an ongoing advisory from the VDH to avoid large gatherings in Buckingham.

Total measles cases for the year in Virginia up to 111.

94% of cases in the Buckingham outbreak are in unvaccinated persons.

Total cases in Buckingham increased to 89.

Latest update on the Buckingham measles outbreak (cases increased to 84 from 69). Still contained to the Piedmont Health district - 15 more cases than last week’s update. (Included the last 4 updates below) We recommend early vaccination with MMR, which is the best way to prevent measles.

Thursday update shows ongoing increase in measles cases in the Buckingham outbreak. Good news —- it has not spread outside of the Piedmont health District. However, the BRHD shares multiple borders w/buckingham so we remain on alert and recommend early vaccination for babies and toddlers.

Holding steady with this morning’s measles update- with the outbreak in Buckingham at 41 cases- and not spreading out of Buckingham at this point! Of note, 80% of the cases in this outbreak are in unvaccinated people.

Measles outbreak is official. If you are a patient at our office and have questions please send us a message by the patient portal or call the office.

Infants aged 6 to 11 months are advised to get an early dose of the MMR vaccine. Infants who receive an early dose of MMR vaccine before their first birthday should receive two more doses at the recommended ages at least 28 days apart.
Children aged 12 months to 18 years old who have not yet been vaccinated or never had measles infection should receive their first MMR vaccine dose with a second dose at least 28 days after the first dose.
Children aged 12 months or older who have previously received only one MMR dose should receive a second MMR vaccine dose at least 28 days after the first dose.

We would love money, time & resources to learn more about autism. We need to know more about causes & therapies. One thing that HAS been answered clearly and scientifically is that vaccines do not cause autism- confusing and misleading people is a distraction and a waste of time we can’t afford.

This is an AAP graphic that states that the science is clear that vaccines do not cause autism. And a call on the cdc to stop wasting govt resources to amplify false claims.
