#HotComicBookSummer Green Monk by Brandon Dayton. This is a little cutie. The line work reminds me a bit of Jeff Smith’s Bone (an all timer, obviously). I hope this is a proof of concept for a larger project because I think there’s more fun to be had here.

#HotComicBookSummer Descender 3: Singularities Sorry to report that I spent the first half of this volume wondering when the flashbacks would be done so we could get back to the story before realizing I was halfway done and the whole book was going to be flashbacks.
#HotComicBookSummer The Nice House on the Lake 2 by James Tynion IV and Álvaro Martinez Bueno. Still liked this. I think you can feel it start to bear the wait of narrative questions it won’t fulfill fully. Love what Martinez Bueno and the ink and color team is doing here. Some incredible visuals.

Basically exactly what I was hoping someone would recommend when I asked for something like bone. Something weird going on with religion here but the next volume won’t be out for a year or more*

I’ve been doing a little experiment to see what happens when you try to reverse engineer an ai slop post from its comments and they basically all look like this. Even when they come up with something unhinged the uniform design aesthetic keeps it boring.
A Guest in the House also delivered a visceral sense memory that made me think of A Softer World by Joey Comeau for the first time in many years. #HotComicBookSummer

#HotComicBookSummer Descender 1: Tin Stars by Jeff LeMire and Dustin Nguyen. I am enjoying this a lot. Part of me wishes that the art team had opted for brighter colors and some sharp linework. Like we’re talking about a galactic robot apocalypse have a little fun with it.
#HotComicBookSummer Crowded: Soft Apocalypse The characters and story are fun. The character design is good albeit with a touch of “one man tells another man to draw a hot girl” The core satire that gig economy represents a major but imperceptible “soft apocalypse” is good.
#HotComicBookSummer I don’t use “reveling in the grotesque” lightly, but, man, I have kids and I can’t keep hiding what I’m reading because it has pictures of severed limbs falling from the sky. similar dialogueless panels are repeated for multiple pages great bit to fill original floppies that way.
#HotComicBookSummer Feeding Ghosts by Tessa Hulls. Not just personal, but more importantly idiosyncratic. Any memoir will be personal but what makes Hull’s work incredible is the complete and unique visual language through which she expresses this story.
