Harlan Ellison passed away on this day 28 June 2018. He was 84. I first came across his work when I saw 𝑨 𝑩𝒐𝒚 & 𝑯𝒊𝒔 𝑫𝒐𝒈 on the TV when I was just a wee a kid. This made me look him out in the library where the first thing I read was 𝑰 𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑵𝒐 𝑴𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 & 𝑰 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝑺𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎. Would have loved to have met him.

𝑽𝑶𝑻𝑩 has other significance. Like Harlan Ellison, Vogt's story was ripped off by J. Cameron for 𝑻𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒓 2, which Cameron has never been quizzed about. Vogt & Harlan don't just share this affinity they had a close friendship & Harlan considered Vogt a mentor & was his protector in Vogt's old age.
This gem arrived. It has A. E. van Vogt's 𝑽𝒂𝒖𝒍𝒕 𝑶𝒇 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕. 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒚𝒆𝒓 by Vogt was released in 𝑨𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝑭 1939 & is expensive due to it being Vogt's first published story. But Vogt actually submitted 𝑽𝑶𝑻𝑩 in 1938. It was held back due to it having similar themes to another story that year.
