I will not tolerate this George A. Romero erasure (I’m using Dawn, but he was in Martin, too)
Recent find at a Del Rey bookstore outside of DC. The Fritz Leiber I’ve been looking for for decades, and I can’t say no to Finney. The Martin and the McGhee were recs.
I don’t wear glasses, but I have fun at my daughter’s eye appointments
See #wildflowerhour, and it’s pretty and all, but I got really excited for a split second because I thought we were talking about one of the best albums ever, Tom Petty’s 1994 solo album WILDFLOWERS
Remember, team, if a soulless iPhone can see you as a work of art, then you definitely deserve a person viewing you that way.
Posted this over on Instagram before remembering, hey, Bluesky can show videos, too (I mean, I routinely watch @atrupar.com’s clips, so I was just being dense). Anyway, I’ll be at the charity event Authorcon VI with copies of BONES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN and all my other works, so come see me!
This is Moneypenny, & she’s the companion of someone who tries to make the world better for others. She’s got a backstory & anniversary that’s not mine to share (click the link), but if you can donate/share, I’d appreciate it. World’s on fire, & we should help each other. gofund.me/a11c777f9
Hey, gang—do you want to help a great dog and companion to a genuine societal helper? That’s not hyperbole. This is MoneyPenny, and she has her own story (including her name!) at the link, but if you can donate or just share, it’d be a good deed and you’d be in my cool books: gofund.me/a09d62278
Day 20 of #600x365. Hope you got some words down today. 600 words over the course of a business week results in a short story. Speaking of, why the hell have I been exploring every writing means aside from my laptop? First a typewriter, now a notebook. I wrote a book in legal pads a few years ago
Day 19 of #600x365. I hope you got some words, in some form, down today. 3 days of note-taking. I’ve been researching the most random things. (There’s a point, it’s not freewheeling, but I can’t talk about it.) A lot of serendipity in what I find, but I don’t believe in signs.
Day 15 of #600x365. I hope you could put aside some time to make the words move today, even if just editing yourself. I hit page 250 on the novel tonight. I’m gonna put it aside to work on some stories, but this felt like a good accomplishment.
The final day of #600x150 and this is how it shook out. Approx. 370 manuscript pages on an Olympia typewriter—169 on 1st attempt, crossing 201 on the 2nd attempt this morning. Some days I wrote a single page; others a half dozen. The novel keeps going, so I’m not done yet. Happy new year, folks.
It’s Dec 27 of #600x150 and we’re in the final countdown. On Nov 3rd, I restarted the manuscript of a potential novel, and I wondered if I could catch up to the 170+ pages I’d already written in the time remaining. I’m on break for two weeks, and I passed the old manuscript today. Keep going.
Which punk rock album is the perfect top-notch record from start to finish? It’s an oldie but a goodie and gave me my first heavy dose of punk beyond some Ramones on Pittsburgh’s alt-rock station when I was a kid: Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables.
I did a thing today! Stopped by @vortexbooksncomics.bsky.social and saw @briankeene.bsky.social and @marysangiovanni.bsky.social, and had a blast. This constituted a mini-roadtrip for me, @ecfnj.bsky.social and @bluntlittletool.bsky.social, along with The Bug, and it was a glorious outing.
Two weeks ago (on Day 90), I made the hard decision to begin a rewrite mid-story b/c I’d written myself into a corner that I couldn’t mentally leap frog over. The first manuscript was 169 pages. I just first page 52 of the rewrite. Am I catching up? Who cares? Fuckin WRITE. #600x150 Day 105.
Day 90 of #600x150 I’ve been bouncing around, partly due to necessity, partly because I’d written myself into a massive corner. I had to revise a story about Pittsburgh and being haunted for a submission deadline. I also had to contend with the fact my novel had a superfluous character I was—(1)
On Day 70 of #600X150, a day of stresses and chaos, I still took some time a little bit ago to get some writing in. I can tell how tired I am by how much of a bruise I have on the underside of my forearms from using my typewriter at my kitchen table. Also, page 148 for those keeping count.
I think today is Day 55 of #600x150, but I’m not entirely sure ( @cynthiapelayo.bsky.social would know). I hit page 125 today on this shaggy dog of an apocalypse novel currently called ONE WEEKEND DURING THE END OF THE WORLD. Today I really did write more than the usual 600 words.
Day 46 of #600x150 Page 103 and doing this in 2 and 2.5 page days makes the first draft feel shaggy. That’s okay, though—it’s a fucking first draft and I’ll revise later. What matters is getting it all down; there’s gold in there or I otherwise would’ve gotten bored already
