As expected, the unique challenge for DK Mountain was its dynamic bridge. The only models for it are a plank of wood and a tiny piece of rope, and I had to piece it together using object parameters and (mostly) studying it in the game. #3D #MarioKart
The most interesting challenge of Yoshi Circuit was the water, which changes colors drastically through MIP map trickery in-game. To imitate this, I used a very soft mask around the edges. The mask is so big and blurry, it takes over a minute to load or edit it. #3D #MarioKart
Mushroom City is another track I was looking forward to mapping, but it turned out to be a huge pain. With all the vertical overlap, translucent road paint, and other effects, I had to edit at least six different copies of the track. The tall buildings make for good landmarks. #3D #MarioKart
The trickiest part of Sherbet Land was the colorful background mountains, which didn't fit well with a simple solid color background around the edges. It just goes to highlight how colorful this course is. #3D #MarioKart
As the fourth track in the Flower Cup, it only felt right to include the entirety of Waluigi Stadium in the map. The translucent water and mud was a huge pain to deal with when it came to making the ambient occlusion look right. So many overlapping transparent polygons... #3D #MarioKart
Daisy Cruiser was the first course for which I had to divide up the map due to how the track overlaps itself. Thanks to the narrow layout, I was able to keep the layers vertically aligned without wasting much space. I had to rotate and redo the map to match the minimap. #3D #MarioKart
For Mario Circuit's map, I want to point out the icons I made to represent hazards. Each one is rendered using the course's lighting where appropriate, so the Piranha Plants here look different than on Yoshi Circuit. (Chain Chomp is just the item sprite and doesn't count.) #3D #MarioKart
Mushroom Bridge is one of the courses I was most looking forward to mapping. It's just such a nice setting. I had to get more creative with the tunnels to help them stand out against the detailed hills around them. All aboard the Wigglermobile! #3D #MarioKart
The biggest challenges for Dry Dry Desert were the complex sand and the tornado's path. By the way, pay attention to the shadows on the ground and you'll realize they don't make any sense. #3D #MarioKart
Not really much to say about Baby Park's map, so as a bonus, here's the full render of the other stuff outside the course that I cropped out. It makes you really appreciate the effort that went into the background details. #3D #MarioKart
I had to tackle a number of new challenges for my second Double Dash map, but the biggest challenge of Peach Beach was the dynamic water. I'd like to think my solution conveys all of the important information in a way that looks natural and visually appealing. #3D #MarioKart
I've just finished a special project I started in 2024: #3D maps for all of #MarioKart Double Dash. It's been 10 years since I last made a new video game map. Every course brought a new challenge. For Luigi Circuit, it was learning water and boosters. Check them out on @vgmaps.bsky.social 's site!
It will be a while before I make any more art, so I may as well fill the time by sharing one of my random OCs. Say hello to April. She works at a flower shop and she is an awkward dork. Please be nice to her. #oc #ocArt #MonsterGirl #centaur
By the way, here are the renders I made for reference (scaped up 400%) when making my SNES Starship Mario #pixelArt. Rendering with different aliasing and sizes helps me keep track of smaller details and the overall shape of things. #SuperMario #SuperMarioGalaxy
Someone might like these... here are some messed-up SM64 Marios from when I was trying to calculate the bind matrices. Which one is your favorite? #3D #SuperMario #SuperMario64 #SM64
I had a silly idea... so here is SM64's Mario head model with Brawl's textures. It turned out better than I expected. #3dArt #SuperSmashBros #SuperMario #SM64 #SuperMario64
To celebrate ripping the bone data for the SM64 title screen head, I attempted to recreate MFGG's SoVeryHappy emote with it using only the bones. SoVeryHappy64. #3dArt #SuperMario #SuperMario64 #SM64
The classic #SuperMario64 menu... If you were wondering why I haven't made any art for the past few months, it's because of this ripping project. I'm proud of myself for being able to even get it working in the first place. I had DREAMS about ASM, structs, and pointers... #3dArt #SuperMario #SM64
Here are the indivudal frames, for those that want them. #Wario #WarioLand #pixelArt
Weird, I don't remember this idle animation in Wario Land 4... #Wario #WarioLand #pixelArt
Is it the end of the year already? Here's a collage of everything I released this year. It's not much, since most of my focus went into TMR. Still, I hope everyone enjoys playing with what little I did make. Happy New Year, everyone! #3dArt #pixelArt #SuperMario #SNES #Yoshi #SuperMarioGalaxy
Just for fun, I whipped up a tool that upscales images the special N64 way. Here's an updated version of my Geno 64 render, plus the old one for comparison. #Nintendo64 #3dArt #SuperSmashBros #SuperMario #SuperMarioRPG #Geno
Minor spoiler warning for Kirby Air Riders story mode! A silly comic based on the story mode. I wanted it to be quick and doodly, but I like drawing Nova too much... #Kirby #KirbyAirRiders #comic #doodle
Oh wow, 500 followers! I'm glad so many of you like my art and stuff. I'm going to continue reposting old stuff, since it takes me so long to make anything new. (Image is still from my 2000 YouTube subscriber special animation featuring Rosie.) #3dArt #SuperSmashBros #AnimalCrossing #YoshisIsIand
Made some quick little Undertale-style dialog portraits for Max and for my OC Pear. #Undertale #pixelArt #oc #ocArt
