🗒️ 220P/McNaught — 8 Aug 2026 I followed it from the observatory the next evening. The sky, with cirrus and a waning Moon 🌙, eventually cleared. The coma still shows structural detail, but the ion tail ☄️ is barely visible after stacking. Is it fading, or are conditions just not favourable?

☄️ 220P/McNaught is in outburst again! On my second attempt, I managed to salvage 15×30s exposures from 102 frames despite the clouds. The comet is incredibly bright, with an ion tail extending ~0.5°. About 600× brighter in just a few hours! Image data & measurements are shown in the image.

Yesterday I was only able to obtain a single image of comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS) from the Chilean Andes. Even with just a quick processing, it was enough to confirm that the comet remains very active, revealing notable structures in its tail. Hopefully there will be better luck next night.
