I love that people are more concerned about our state flag than they are about diarrhea lettuce, the massive forest fires, ICE murdering people, or the complete and total corruption of our federal government.

When we ordered a piece of mud pie I was not expecting two pints of ice cream with a steak knife in it, smothered in two mugs of chocolate and caramel plus two scoops of whipped cream. WTAF

By mud pie, they mean two pints of ice cream, topped with two ice cream sized scoops of whipped cream, smothered in dualing mugs of chocolate and caramel sauce. This thing has a massive steak knife sticking out of it. We had to carve slices out of it like gyro meat. Why is this called a pie? This thing is a murder weapon.

Apple Turnovers
teamed apple dumplings and fried apple pies appear Sin many carly-nineteenth-century cookbooks. Smar half-moon turnovers appear to be a twentieth-century creation, often called "children's pies," as they're just the right size for children to eat out of hand. Turnovers similar to ours are found in Charleston Receipts, recipes collected by the Junior League of Charleston in 1950.
Fannie Farmer does not include any turnovers in her 1923 cookbook. However, in the 1990 Fannie Farmer Baking Book by Marion Cunningham, there are six different turnovers, including apple-raisin turnovers that are flavored with red wine and cinnamon. All are made with pastry rounds that are filled and folded in half, then crimped closed with fork tines.

PREP: 1 hour plus chilling * BAKE: 35 minutes
MAKES 14 turnovers

Pastry Dough for 2-Crust Pie (page 298)
3 tablespoons plus ½ cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 large Granny Smith apples (1½ pounds), peeled, cored, and chopped
I tablespoon cornstarch
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon pinch salt
I teaspoon fresh lemon juice
I large egg, beaten
I cup confectioners' sugar 2 tablespoons warm water
2 teaspoons light corn syrup
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Prepare Pastry Dough as directed through chilling, but in Step 1, add 2 tablespoons granulated sugar along with flour.
2. In 10-inch skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add apples, ⅓ cup granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and salt; cook, stirring, until apples are tender, about 8 minutes. Add lemon juice; set aside to cool completely.
3. On lightly floured surface, with floured rolling pin, roll one disk of dough into round about ⅛ inch thick.
Using 5-inch round plate as guide, cut out 5 dough rounds. Repeat with remaining dough; reroll trimmings.
You should have 14 dough rounds in all.
4. Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease two large cookie sheets.

As crappy as our leadership team is (the managers/director), our supervisors are a good lot. One nominated me for an achievement award ($1000 bonus) cause I’m the “powerhouse” on the team. That was very unexpected and very sweet and might be the one thing to prevent me from quitting… just yet 🙃

After taking several months off for two cataract surgeons plus three retina surgeries, I’m finally trying to get my crop art done in time for the state fair! Just gotta get the border done and then do some touch ups and then hopefully my very first (and perhaps only) crop art piece will be done 🙃
