—redacted name— hummed thoughtfully, "You live with them, eat with them, laugh and love with them. How are you an outsider?"
In answer I pointed to my arched cars and sharp, elongated canines, "I'm a shifter, big boy. What do you think?"
He chuckled, slowing to a stop, I stopped with him. "You were a shifter when we were children too, and I never saw you as an outsider."
I rested my hands on my hips as I craned my head to look up at him, "Then you're one in a million. Few agree with you."
He gave me a knowing look, then glanced at my mouth only for an instant. It was enough. I resented the heat warming my cheeks. "I wish others could see you as you are, —redacted name— You are a mighty warrior, with a strong heart, and even stronger wings."
I smiled, and it was honest.

I watched as he gently, reverently, pulled a strand of hair
out of my face and tucked it behind my car. The soft intimacy had my breath catching in my throat. Though I made no move to stop him as he also lightly brushed a knuckle over my cheek.
"Are you mated?" He asked in a hushed whisper. The question caught me off guard so quickly I blurted out, "What?

Something flicked my nose and I blinked myself awake,
"What? What is happening?" I asked, unable to see a thing through the sun in my eyes.
"Mommy, I'm hungry." —redacted name— said.
My head fell back on a sigh as I answered, "Okay. Okay,
baby. I'm up. Go wait by the table."
She scampered down the halls and I ran my hands over
the strong forearm wrapped around my waist. “—redacted name— wake up."
He only grumbled and squeezed me tighter so I pinched his nose closed until he gasped himself awake.
Despite the heaviness in my bones I giggled at the glare he threw my way. "I would prefer to be woken up by soft kisses, not attempted murder."
Seeking to place a balm on his soul I began peppering kisses all over his face until he grabbed me. We wrestled all across the floor, laughing the whole time until I let him pin me.

The sound of her voice alone was the sweetest, most powerful melody I had ever heard in my life.
“Moonlight…” The word left my lips on a whisper.
I was watching every micro movement she made and noticed how she shook. All I wanted was to go to her, to hold her again and remind her everything will be alright. But I hesitated.
“I don’t… I don’t know if I can bear looking at those eyes again. Those strangers' eyes. I said goodbye to you once and it killed me. Why are you here, Wes?”
I winced at her words, and at the pain-filled tone she used to speak them. Silence stretched on and on until I gathered the strength to speak, “For so long I…I was alone… walking in endless fields of darkness. No light. No life. I tried to find you. But you weren’t… you weren’t there.” My throat threatened to close as I opened up to her, laying my grief out in the open between us. And I nearly collapsed when she turned, shimmering tears falling down her heartbreakingly beautiful face. With a shuddering intake of breath I continued, “I was… given a path forward. A way back. It was like a door opened for me, and I could hear your laughter again. I could r— I could remember the smell of your hair. I do not know how long it has been, Marísol. I do not know if I am the man that you fell in love with anymore. Perhaps it was selfish of me to come here. But the second I could remember again, I had to come find you. I swam half a word away to do so.

If we had not found you...I could not have gone on happily. And when we did find you, to see how they hurt you, the look in your eyes... I never want to see that look again. That look of fear that
somehow you did not believe I was there. It is just... You are the joy in my heart. You are the anchor of my life. I will always be devoted to you, I will always worship you as the goddess you are. To protect you from all harm. To strive to be worthy of you."

Decided to lean more into mixed media #Art ! The characters I sculpted. I blanked the background out then chaotically drew a bunch of smoke and flames, then blurred it a bit for dramatic effect. Definitely needs fine tuning and more practice in the future. #ArtSky #OCSky #MixedMedia #Sculpture
