Retired and living my best life in the peace and tranquility of rural Roi-et Province, Thailand.
Neighbouring fields have patches of water and some have a lot of bare patches where the rice hasn't grown. The photo shows our field in June, it looks very unhealthy because it should have been in 200mm of water back then.
Thailand is rather strange with the weather, over on the Andaman Sea coast and inland as far as Bangkok they've had it bad with rain while we here in Isaan have waited for rain to save our rice. Photo taken today, the ground is dry whereas the rice should be in around 150 to 200mm of water.
Growth yes, flavour I never noticed because every meal has chillies. The rice in the fields are now safe, there was a point where I thought they'd turn brown and frazzle like my lawn. Photo shows the lawn last year, it's on its way to recovery following this year's brown and crispy season.
Similar temperatures to Thailand as we enter the rainy season, the downside here is fierce sun and humidity, I spend my afternoons in an air conditioned room, venturing out to do small tasks then retreating back inside to mop the sweat from my brow!
For anyone who may be interested, I've been refurbishing our old kitchen for the last few weeks, and it's nearly finished! The kitchen in question is in our old home in a small village in Thailand, we now have two kitchens, one in the new house that 'er indoors won't cook in, and this one.
Two stems have been cut down and now provide nutrients and water for the remaining plants. The failed bunch with a blackened and rotting stem. The one remaining bunch being supported by a plank because the stem is showing signs of deterioration.
@paulette7.bsky.social Good morning Paulette. Banana update: The oldest stem appears to have been attacked by insects or disease resulting in the loss of a bunch of bananas, but the good news is another stem from the same root has given us a lovely bunch of bananas! The good bunch.
The knuckle draggers will be cheering as other peoples rights are taken from them... until the knuckle draggers rights are taken from them, then it's injustice!
I would also add that Aaron Banks provided a house, chauffeur driven Ronge Raver and body guards for Fartrage during the Brexit campaign. Aaron Banks, Andy Witmore and Farage were inseparable during the Leave.eu campaign.
Working the rice again this morning, the field is still flooded due to the heavy rain we've had recently, it made harvesting difficult!
Good morning from a bright and sunny Thailand. Rice harvesting (my first one) begins soon, probably next week.
I'm waiting for the Trump derangement from Truth Social, which should be due soon as he goes for his midnight shit where he does most of his social media posting!
That's why I've moved abroad, I can live a better quality of retirement than if I was in the UK! There I'd probably be living alone in a bedsit and unable to afford to go out. Here I have a new house and a garden to keep me occupied. I can manage on half my pension now!
It's nice and cool here too, although the humidity is a little bit on the high side!
All that's missing are the tumblers with a slice of fruit and a tiny umbrella on the tables, just like a tacky Florida resort!
The lifts in his shoes to support his ego cause him to lean forward thus making it awkward for him to walk down stairs! He occasionally uses pads under his toes to counter the lean!
Same water container, different elephant! P.S. It's actually me, in case you didn't notice!
Now THAT'S what you call a mango! Picked from one of our trees this hot and clammy afternoon in Roi et Province, Thailand!
Good morning Paulette. The following is a banana update from the land of smiles!
Good morning Paulette, or evening as we call it here! Banana update. The old banana flower produced 5 bunches before I cut the flower off (we had it for dinner). The new flower has managed 7 bunches, then I cut that flower off too!
Tropical rainstorm in progress! The brown and crispy lawn is now a pond!
Today is big market day in Chaturapak Phiman and we were fortunate enough to have live entertainment! #Thailand🇹🇭
