I've been neglectful of the #dragonfly feed this summer; too busy looking at them to write about them. Here's a Violet Dropwing that I saw on that @naturetrek.bsky.social trip to the Camargue that I mentioned last month. Yowza that is a cool bug #invertebrates

Text: The Black Pennant dragonfly (Selysiothemis nigra) is recent addition to the fauna of continental France, having been officially recorded there for the first time in July 2020. This small, highly mobile migratory dragonfly species is natively found across Central Asia, the Middle East, and parts of North Africa, but is rapidly expanding its territory northward across Europe due to rising global temperatures…..did we mention we saw a Black Pennant [goofy emoji]

Two cool things that @peromyscus.bsky.social & I got to see at Pine Lake, Wheaton Regional Park today; 1) a Merlin, with the usual branch in the way; and 2) an Autumn Meadowhawk, that last hanger-on of local #dragonflies #invertebrates

Who wants to be Raptured when down here on Earth we have Skippers to keep us happy and confused, and distract us from birding. Clouded Skipper from the Rock Creek Park Maintenance Yard, of all places.

Here's a Variable Dancer #damselfly from Sligo Creek Park - love the purple, and it was cooperative enough to let me take its pic with my phone
