I’ve just posted our latest restored and remastered session from the archives. Poetry performance with spontaneous improvised music accompaniment by Dangerous Odds: FUZZY LOGIC. It’s a joy to digitize and remaster these old sessions for release on my Bandcamp. Link to album is in comments.
Last night was bad insomnia: pain after physical therapy, I just couldn’t get comfortable. Eventually I gave up and finishing restoring and remastering a studio session from 1994. That will be posted to my Bandcamp shortly. Meanwhile, if more insomnia, I have another session I can work on.
Not only was Emergency! a great TV show, I’ll go on record saying that it had once of the best opening music themes of all time. Exciting, dramatic, powerful, and memorable music.
Office for the day: I’ve mostly had to rest today, but I’ve started composing an SSA arrangement of my song “Shine.” Making good progress on the first pass. When done, I will edit through it to conform to middle school voice ranges. #music #musiccomposer #choralmusic
48 years ago today, the Univ. of Michigan Men’s Glee Club won the international choral Eisteddfod at Llangollen in Wales. UMMGC was the beginning of my TTBB choral career singing in many GALA Choruses, being commissioned to write music for them, and more. UMMGC was the beginning of a lifetime.
I made delicious chicken saté. I improvised a marinade for the skewered meat as I didn’t have any kecap manis, so I made it. After living in Java on my Fulbright year I can cook Indonesian. The peanut sauce was basically Thai, although I slightly modified it. Served over long grain and wild rice.
I did a painting for the annual #wetpaintart summer postcard show. I used one of my photos from the Blue Ridge Parkway. I drove half the Parkway’s length in Virginia and North Carolina last month. This watercolor is abstract, based on the Blue Ridge mountains seen from #shenandoahnationalpark .
Today I drove the 105-mile Skyline Road in Shenendoah National Park, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was a lot of very twisty, curvy road with occasional superb scenic viewpoints. I saw some amazing views, and really liked being alone on the road surrounded by verdant forest. Shinrin-yoku.
Moon and Jupiter tonight. A big storm washed the sky clear, leaving behind this celestial scene. First two images taken with Canon DSLR EF telephoto lens, second two using 6x7 app on iPhone. I like how the telephoto caught the roughness of the mountain shadows in the edge of the sunlit crescent.

My booth on the Promenade level of the Overture Center for this weekend’s Centennial celebration of the Madison Symphony Orchestra. I’ll be doing a lot of teaching and demonstrating the history and philosophy of music notation, from Medieval music to modern, and from other cultures, too.
I hereby decree and declare that WD-40 is an Essential Oil. There will be no debate about this fundamental truth.
This: there is no temptation to resist. The tennis player analogy is good: as a person who played tennis in his youth, I just wanna play! I like writing. I like writing, playing, recording, and improvising music. There is zero temptation to replace a pleasurable activity with AI doing it for me.
Doing our usual weather-witching job to keep the worst of it from hitting right here. Part the waters, part the waters.

Currently reading the opening book of the conclusing trilogy of my favorite fantasy series by msagara.bsky.social and as always deeply enthralled. Returning to Breodanir where it all began with “Hunter’s Oath” feels like returning home. So many characters and ideas here I have come to love.
So I submitted a story for the next volume (no. 3) of The Best Bi Erotica. Not assuming it will be accepted, but writing it was very fun. And in my mind it’s the opening sequence of maybe a trilogy of erotic fictions. This is fiction I never expected to write, but I’ve had steady publications, so.
Even though I really didnt have the energy for cooking tonight, after a fairly stressful and exhausting week, I made my fave Indian comfort food, chicken tikka masala, with yogurt and raisins on top.
Today I submitted two full length poetry books to contests, talked to my editor about using my photos in a forthcoming anthology, organized art materials in my basement studio (WIP), and made this blank notebook featuring covers made from self-portrait x-rays. Yeah, that’s me. Title: Memento Mori.
Going through one of those periods when the only music I can listen to is my own original music. I’m writing while listening to my Stick album “Shifting Times.” These periods are ear-cleaning. Removing distractions while I focus on my own music. They happen when I’m on the threshold of new work.
It’s a gloomy grey cloudy morning. I don’t want to listen to songs with words. I want to listen to moody instrumental music. I settled on bass master Barre Phillips: Three Day Moon.
I need to take a break today from the accelerating daily madness and be creative. So here is a photo of our lilac tree in prodigious bloom. #creativity #photography #artmaking
Same. ND is a LOT more. I check off every item on the giftedness part of this chart, and the overlap; otherwise none of rest of the chart. I’m also cPTSD. I get really tired of having people assume that ND = only Aut/ADHD, ignoring the rest, and lumping us all together.
A Music Notebook Custom notebook for lyrics and music sketching. Perfect for songwriting. Kettle stitch binding, 54 pages, caseboard covers. I designed this for my own needs as a composer and poet. Next step is to copy lyrics from my old workbook into here, and start working on them as songs.
