It's disingenuous to demand someone denounce Israel but then say he didn't do it the right way or it's too sudden and recent. What is the statute of limitations? Do these people really think that as a Jewish man in today's political climate saying anything against Israel would 100% help his career?

Earlier this year, Wiener declined to call the conflict in Gaza a "genocide" during a debate with the other candidates vying to replace Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi in the House of Representatives. He changed course several days later, saying in a video that the "Israeli government has tried to destroy Gaza and to push Palestinians out, and that qualifies as genocide."

Wiener's about-face drew the suspicion of progressives, who described his support for Gaza as insincere, as well as supporters of Israel, which led to him resigning as co-chair of the California Legislative Jewish Caucus amid the backlash.

"His very recent shift to finally admitting there is a genocide in Gaza holds no water without accountability for the harm he has caused regarding censorship around Palestine," said StormMiguel Florez, a community member quoted in the organizs' statement. "I'm disgusted that Scott (Wiener) is using this moment to center himself and fundraise for his political campaign."
